INTRODUCTION
Present study is based on child development. It will explain self-regulation and meta-
cognition development approaches in the development of kids. Furthermore, report will describe
ways through which these self-regulation and meta-cognition approaches can be applied in the
educational practices.
MAIN BODY
1. Concept of self-regulation and meta-cognition in educational practice
Meta-cognition and self-regulation approaches are learning approaches. These methods
concentrate on self-learning. Its main aim is to make the person aware so that they think about
their own learning more explicitly (Meichenbaum, 2017).
Self-regulation can be define as one's own motivation towards learning. Individual has to
be motivated and have to make own strategies in order to enhance their understanding. It ensures
that learners have ability to control over their learning process. Self-regulated learning is the
practice that is applied by the person in their educational duration (Tomporowski and et.al,
2015). It is considered as self-directed process that supports learners in transforming their mental
abilities into academic skills. In this process student put self-efforts in order to develop their
learning and experience regarding their educational aspects so that they can become more
effective and talented.
Meta-cognition is the considered as methodology which contributes in self-directed
learning. It is the approach which is related with own thinking and cognitive activity of
individual in order to develop their learning and knowledge (Schonert-Reichl and et.al, 2015). It
is the process in which learner makes effective control over their learning approaches,
performance. They think about their current activities and experiences in order to develop their
academic skills. This method helps the individual in understanding their strategies and its impact.
Over a period of time nature of child development has been changed drastically. Earlier
educational programs were not that much advance to provide good information to the kids but
now education system has been changed thus, development of children has been modified. Now
in the early age learners get to know about mobile technologies and other equipments. They use
these things frequently and like to use such aspects. Now social intervention has been enhanced
and students are able to interact with each other well (Tizard and et.al, 2017). Their development

in the early age learners get to know about mobile technologies and other equipments. They use
these things frequently and like to use such aspects. Now social intervention has been enhanced
and students are able to interact with each other well (Tizard and et.al, 2017). Their development

is highly depended upon the factor that how they develop relationship with each other.
Implication of early childhood practices helps in development of children and make them able to
critically think about their own practices and improve their knowledge as well. Now teachers
have various approaches that they apply in the child care setting so that interest of learners can
be raised and they pay more attention on their activities. Now children own self have ability to
grow their abilities, they look around surrounding and compare themselves from others. This
helps in implementing innovative ides through which can give strength to their own skills
(Cohen, Mannarino and Deblinger, 2016).
There are various child development theories that clearly define the role of various
factors in the development of individual. Sigmund Freud has given model of child development,
it explains that innate unconscious sexual drivers push the children towards development. With
the increasing age person become more confident and able to judge their own practices. This
supports in their development and growth (Sigel, McGillicuddy-DeLisi and Goodnow, 2014).
Erik Erikson has given another development theory. This explains that social relationship impact
on development of individual to great extent. This social interrelationship supports the kid in
developing their cognitive and psychological skills. By this way they become more actively and
activity participate in the development aspects. This helps them in improving their knowledge
and skills significantly.
Freud's development theory explains five stage of development. In the initial phase
parents handle theory children but as age gets increased individual handle their issues by own. In
the oral phase parents have to take care of their kids but in anal stage they get training regarding
some essential aspects (Promoting Self-Regulation in Science Education: Metacognition as Part
of a Broader Perspective on Learning, 2006). In this phase parents pay attention on their bowel
movements. Phalluic stage is the phase in which children start understanding things by looking at
their surroundings. Genital phase is the psychosexual development stage. In this, people get
attracted towards other sex. Erik Erikson has also given development theory in which individual
has explained that in each phase children face psychosocial crises that impacts on their
personality development. In each stage person improve their learning and become able to face
social crises and handle these issues well (Metacognition and self-regulation, 2018).
Learning is the complex process, in which individual is required to acquire new
information and have to observe their own activities in order to develop their academic skills.

Self-regulated and meta-cognition approaches can be applied in educational practices by
motivating learners. If teacher encourage people and make them able to analyses their own
practices and its effectiveness then it may help the person in thinking creatively and can grow in
their career. Through reflecting thinking individual can adopt these strategies and can implement
it in their educational practices (Ben-Eliyahu and Linnenbrink-Garcia, 2015). Meta-cognition is
the critical approach or mechanism that enhance learning capabilities of students and helps them
in understanding their own learning process. Teachers have to set goal and objectives for the
students so that they work in a direct so that these aim can be accomplished. If educator
motivates learners and support them, then these methods can be applied in educational settings.
Peer model is considered as one of the effective approach that supports in making
learners aware with their own knowledge and skills (Gini, Pozzoli and Hymel, 2014). By this
way they can drive them towards adopting self-regulated and meta-cognition approaches in order
to enhance their knowledge. Collaboration among teachers and students is another way to apply
self-regulated and meta-cognitive approaches in the educational setting. By effective colouration
ad interaction learners can adopt these approaches and can develop critical thinking approaches.
This can support them in improving their knowledge and analysing their own experiences. If
each student make collaboration with other learner then it helps them in identifying their weak
points and strengths. By this way, they will adopt new practices that can assist them in
overcoming from their issues and strengthening their strong points (Piquero and et.al, 2016).
Teachers and parents are the main aspects that contribute in the development of children.
They both provide good knowledge and education to the learners so that they grow well and
learn things by own. If parents behave positive with their children then it develops self-approach
of learning in the individuals. By this way they feel encouraged to get to know about new things.
This helps them in their learning to great extent. Meta-cognition is that critical thinking approach
that can be applied in educational setting significantly and can raise knowledge of learners as
well. By enhancing interaction with other students teachers can make the persons able to
analyses their meta-cognitive abilities.
By this way they become able to control over their cognitive performance and get to
know about new ways of getting knowledge. Early childhood people has huge energy and they
like to use new things. Thus, if teachers motivate these children then they will innovative new
things to learner that improve their knowledge and understanding as well. Parents are the first

3

educator for the children, they make them able to understand things and live their life in the right
direction. If parents gives support to their children then kids will grow well and will discuss their
issue with family well (The role of parents in early childhood learning, 2014). But if parents do
not concentrate on their children and neglect then it decreases confidence of the small kids and
they become unsocial. They start living lonely because they fail to coordinate well with others.
Parental roles plays significant in the development of children. If parents develop good
relationship with their children then these kids will feel free to do experiment this will raise their
learning and they will get educated by own (Sigel, McGillicuddy-DeLisi and Goodnow, 2014).
Meta cognition is very essential for the children because by this way kids can evaluate
their own performance and can identify their current position. This helps them in making
strategies through which they can get their desired goal. Transfer of knowledge and ideas is the
approach that can help in applying self-regulation and Meta cognition in the educational setting
of children. Teachers teach learners about particular subject but students implement their ideas.
They perform their homework this raise their understanding and they develop self-knowledge
about the topic. Whatever they learn in the school they apply these things in their life this
enhance learning of the people and they become self-directive persons. In the school teachers
teaches various mathematical strategies to solve any problem but learners compare all the
methods and apply the easiest way to solve the problem. This shows their self-regulated and
meta-cognitive abilities that impact on their learning process. If they get failed to solve the
problem correctly then they apply next method. Thus, they analysis all these strategies and
finally implement these in their educational practices (Cohen, Mannarino and Deblinger, 2016).
Self-regulation techniques help the kids in pay ng close attention on their own
performance and check their ability to perform in the classroom. Each kid wants to become
more competitive as compare to others thus, they observe things and performance of other
learners. On the bases of this they make changes in their strategies and apply new methods so
that they can compete in the class room. It is the technique in which learners learn things by own
in proactive manner (Tizard and et.al, 2017. They evaluate the outcomes and measure success of
their performance. This approach helps the students in performing effectively and working
independently. In order to raise self-regulation capabilities of the children teachers play games
with the children. They arrange such type of games where kids use their brain power and

visualize the further actions. This enhance capabilities of the person and make them able to work
effectively without any support.
Self-regulation and meta-cognition abilities make the kid able to be clam and be alert in
classroom. They control over their behaviour and attend the classroom activities seriously. It is
essential to apply these self-regulation and meta-cognition in educational practices. Exercises is
the best way that is used by teachers to increase attentiveness of the children in classroom. By
this way they become more focused and pay more attention in classroom activities. This
enhances their self-awareness and they become able to perform well in the classroom activities.
Jumping, push ups make them feel happy and they enjoy the classroom. This increases their
coordination with other children and enhance competition within them. By this way they push
themselves to perform even much better (Ben-Eliyahu and Linnenbrink-Garcia, 2015).
Parents play a significant role in the development of kids. If individual is getting positive
response in the family and getting correct answers of their questions. Then it will improves brain
power and they will respond to the sudden changes quickly. Role play activities are considered
as effective way through which self-regulation and Meta cognitive abilities can be applied in the
educational practices for early childhood kids. If these kids play role of particular person then
they can analysis the strength and weakness of the performance. By this way they can apply
good things in their daily lives and can learn more things. In addition, motivation is considered
as effective tool, if children get motivation for their efforts then they will try these things next
time as well (Gini, Pozzoli and Hymel, 2014). This will make them independent and they will be
able to improve their knowledge by directing own self. This motivation encourage them to put
more efforts in order to improve their performance.
CONCLUSION
From the above study, it can be concluded that self-regulation and meta-cognition
approaches are effective for the development of children. By this way, individuals can develop
their own learning and analyse the practices. Parents have to support and provide positive
environment to their children to develop their skills so that they can move towards right
