AI Summary
This assignment presents a student's responses to two discussion prompts related to child development. The first response analyzes a video illustrating literacy and emotional development in infancy and middle childhood, highlighting the importance of parental involvement in fostering these skills. The student references the provided text, noting how a mother's support enables a child to make sounds and associate emotions with facial expressions. The second response explores the progression of learning and development from infancy through adolescence, emphasizing the acquisition of reading and writing skills and the evolution of emotional understanding and personal interests. Both responses integrate course content, cite relevant sources, and reflect on the developmental stages discussed in the videos and readings, demonstrating an understanding of key concepts in child psychology.

DISCUSSION RESPONSES 2
Response to Discussion 1
It is important for parents to spend some time with their children teaching them
various things. You have correctly noted that the boy in the literacy was able to make the
sounds due to the support of the mother. It is quite evident from the video that the boy is
attached to the mother and feels comfortable about the environment. It is very important for
parents to understand the unique role that they play in the growth and development of their
children. It is also worth noting the great changes in development that occurs in middle
childhood (McDevitt and Ormrod, 2016). The girl in the emotional development video has
surely developed some emotional growth. She can tell what being happy is and can identify
when others are happy. In middle childhood, emotional development is relatively more
advances. You have made great observations concerning the boy in the literacy video. He can
clearly associate smiling to happiness and frowning to anger.
As a person gets older, they interact with the environment more and accumulate more
knowledge. As evidenced by the boy in the literacy videos, the skills of reading and writing
are better and more advanced in early adolescence when compared to earlier stages of growth
and development. Emotional development is also greater. The young girl in the video can
clearly outline the factors that make her happy and those that do not. In late adolescence,
great development has occurred. At this time, the adolescent has learned what their interests
are (Pearson Learning Solutions, 2018). For instance, the girl in the video acknowledges that
she loves reading. In addition, there is more focus on important things in life.
Response to Discussion 2
Learning starts at a very early age (Pearson Learning Solutions, 2018). Although the
brain has had little development in infancy, an infant can learn by what they see and hear.

DISCUSSION RESPONSES 3
This is evidenced by the infant boy in the video. He is listening keenly to the mother and is
able to mimic the sounds that the mother make. In early and middle childhood, a child has
gained the ability to have some basics in reading and writing. It may appear hard since they
are just starting but as evidenced by the girl in the video, they know that they can be helped.
The boy in the literacy video says that he has a great passion for reading because he finds
books very interesting. This is a great indicator of the immense brain and emotional
development that have happened.
In early adolescence, a child starts developing their passions. They are aware of the
kind of books and videos that interest them and the ones that do not. This is shaped by several
factors including great emotional development and learning that has taken place (McDevitt
and Ormrod, 2016). In late adolescence, the child is almost developing into an adult. There is
a great shift of focus from the petty things of life to those that are more serious. Emotional
development is also at the brim and the child has learned such things as what makes them
happy. At this time, most adolescents have identified what they would like to be in life.
Adolescents have also developed great reading and writing skills at this time.
