1)What key health priority is being addressed by this expo? (a brief overview)
Health is something which should be taken care off, especially from a very early age. It is the
habits that are inculcated in the early years of life that increasing the consciousness of a
person, towards living a healthy and fit life. The majority of the parents tend to ignore the
importance of diet at an early age and just for pampering their child they do not stop them
from eating unhealthy junk food. It is due to this attitude that leads to excessive collection of
fat in the child’s body, ultimately leading to obesity or obese. In this expo, the main health
issues that are being addressed are obesity in children (Australian Department of Health,
2011). The expo will inform about the simple lifestyle mistakes that are conducted by parents
or a family as a whole, which leads to Obesity. In Australia, childhood obesity is emerging to
be a serious concern, as one in four children is suffering from the problem of obesity or
overweight. Through this expo, we want to educate the families about obesity and the
different ways it can be handled or tackled.
2)Who is the target audience and why is the health issue significant to them? (age group
of target audience and some statistics on the health issue in that age group e.g. tooth decay
rates in under 5s, amount of time spent playing “screen-based games” in teens, amount of
activity in 5-10 age group)
Childhood obesity can be explained as a health problem that is prominent in Australia. For
children, between the ages of four to seventeen years, this is a health issue that can further
lead to many other physical and mental issue. Therefore, due to the current obesity conditions
prevailing in Australia, the main targeted audience for this expo is children between the ages
of 5-10 years. The targeted audience has been decided this, as the parents need to understand
and inculcate healthy eating habits in their kids and this is the perfect age for it (Baum et al.,
2013).
For the targeted audience, this issue is extremely important, as lifestyle or habits attained in
early childhood development, become part of a person’s personality. Therefore, children who
acquire to unhealthy eating habits in the early years tend to retain such bad habits forever.
Therefore, fostering a healthy lifestyle from an early age is the key to decrease the growing
level of obesity in Australia. In addition to this, the children are the future of a nation,
therefore, it is paramount that they should be directed in the correct direction. Thus, with this
expo, the targeted audience and families will benefit, along with the future of a nation
(Nichols et al., 2013). For increasing the life expectancy of children, this expo is extremely
crucial for them.

3)What is the planned health promotion activity? (Brief description)
As the targeted audience is between the ages of 5 to 10 years, it is crucial that they should be
informed and educated about health through a creative promotional plan. Some of the
promotional activities that will be utilized in this expo are –
Fostering healthy eating habits.
Kids have an inquisitive mind and parents should use it for their benefits. Under this
expo, the parents will be informed about simple garnering tricks that they can perform
regularly at their nearest farm. With the increasing organic farms, the parents have
many options. Through this process, the parents will exhibit the difference between
healthy and non-healthy products. This will push the children to adapt to healthy
eating habits, along with improving their decision making power, to select the correct
food for them (Lindberg, Mc Namara and O'Reilly, 2016).
Inactivity, technology, and activity.
Everyone is aware of the fact that with the increasing use of technology in our day to
day life, people are becoming less inactive. But like every coin has two sides, in the
same way, technology can also be used for increasing activity. Now, children should
be provided with the correct technology. For instance, the current trend of a fitness
band can help parents in increasing the activities of their kid in a creative manner.
These bands will be a fascinating gadget for children which will record all their
activities. Therefore, the parents should use them to monitor their child’s activity
progress and also, push the children to increase their targets at regular intervals. The
parents should also participate along with the children, so as to keep them motivated
and encouraged (Lobstein and Swinburn, 2017).
Communicating with Parents and schools.
A special event for just parents, to inform them about the small mistakes they commit
on a daily basis that results in obesity. Children throughout their lives are pampered
by their parents, grandparents, and relatives. In the young years, it is done in a
massive manner like the overload of sugar which they are given every time they
success or did a good deed. Through this promotional activity, the parents will be
informed about other tricks that they can use for pampering their child, like taking
them to a new park or going on the beach. This approach will be extremely effective
(Hills, Street and Harris, 2014).
4) How have you applied the principles of health promotion and primary health care in
this expo?
The main health promotional principles require the involvement of complete community or
family. For increasing the awareness about obesity, the involvement of the entire family is
required. In addition to this, as the targeted audience is children, the involvement of the
whole community and family is necessary. It is due to this reason that for fostering healthy
lifestyle the involvement of families and schools is needed as children spend their maximum
time at both these places (Lee et al., 2014). It is crucial to develop a balance that helps in
changing the lifestyle of people and thus, the involvement of both these entities is vital. The

other health promotional principle is to educate and inform people. With this expo, families,
children, schools, and the community is being informed about the different do’s and don’ts,
which should be followed to develop a healthy lifestyle for children. Along with this, the
children are being informed to make better decisions through the knowledge they will receive
from this expo (Langford et al., 2015).
5) How has advocacy for child, youth and families been demonstrated in the expo?
The advocacy for children, youth, and families in this expo has been demonstrated in a
creative and fun way, as the main target audience in children. Therefore, it becomes
paramount to ensure that they are completely involved in the expo and for attaining the
involvement and concentration of children, creative and fun approaches are best. In addition
to this, the parents and schools require professional help, as they will believe their lifestyle
way, as the professionals have a credible image amongst adults. Therefore, the advocacy in
this expo has been planned around different people differently.
