Child protection and securities from the internet on social and
ethical issues – reasons and alternatives to improve

Abstract
The current generation is mostly attracting to technical and digital tools and gadgets. One of
the major reason behind such attraction is the rapid increment in the digitalized approaches.
One of the major application or terminology of the digital world is the internet and its
existing usages. All the generation are facing themselves attracted to the internet and found of
spending their whole day just clicking on different internet sites. This innovation is affecting
the children also as they are also getting linked to use the internet and spending most of their
time in the virtual world. This virtualization is negatively impacting their growth and
development and somewhere the line this is also inappropriate for the little children to
become depended on the visual world to spend their whole day. The specific research will
also discuss the negative impact on the internet on the social and security aspects of children.
The major objective of this research is to make the children interlink and connected with the
real world so that they can understand the real happiness of life. There will a discussion about
different phases of the internet. The research will make an understanding of the internet usage
of children.

Introduction
The current world is full of digitalization rapid and digital changes are enhancing the needs
and requirements of using the internet. This innovation is making a large number of people
engaged with internet and mobile usage. In the current time, each the member of the family
likes to work outside and the families are also comparatively small. This makes the children
motivated to do as per their choices as their parents do not have much time to overlook their
children (Modi, et. al., 2014). This busyness of parents giving the children the freedom to do
the things as per their desire. This is one of the major reason which influencing children from
surf the internet.
Despite the fact that when the internet was initiated that was the tool to serve better and
desired information in few time. The motive of this invention was not to entertain the people
but to make them educated and updated with certain and relative changes. In the intervening
time, people understand it as the option of entertainment and also made the definition and
usage of the internet entirely changed. People now making their whole day passing on
random activities of the internet (Esposti, 2014). These actions and amendments of
youngsters and elders making the children more attracted to the internet. The children are
using the internet more than their needs which is harmful to their mental and physical health.
Many of the respected doctors had proved that the boundless or superfluous use of the
internet is affecting the health of children. According to them, the current generation is not
likely to do physical tasks. That has been surveyed that the children of the age group from 5-
15 are likes to make their entertainment via the use of the internet. They are currently
avoiding to do physical activities like playing outside and making themselves engaged with
outside activities. These issues are fluctuating their growth and development and making
them blocked to the virtual and online world. These issues are also affecting the security
parameters of children and needs to be resolved by the time.
The research will give concise information about the internet and different phases of this
innovation. There will also be a discussion about the social and ethical issues which can
negatively affect the children. The entire formation of research will also help to understand
the right way of implementing the internet in day to day life. The main motive of this
research is to make the elders and youngsters understand that the children follow their
belongings (Mordini, 2014). Despite making children connected with the internet they need
to make them quite away from such things.

Aim: This research aims to understand the influences of the internet on the mindset of
children.
Objective
The objective of the research is some of those aspects which majorly needs to be discussed in
the research. Objectives of this particular research are:
 To explore child protection and securities in the context of internet usage
 To identify the reasons for child protection requirement and why the securities
measures are important while using the internet
 To determine the different solutions for child protection from unethical internet usage
and their security parameters.
Research questions
The research questions are the major aspects or issues which will be resolved or discussed in
the research. These are some of the factors which become a major reason to implement the
research (Newell and Marabelli, 2015). Questions of specific research are:
 What the factors of child protection and securities in perspective of high internet
engagement.
 Why child protection is required and what are the security values while using the
internet.
 How to determine child protection from unethical and unnecessary use of the internet?

Literature review
Past developments and history of the internet
Internet is the network of different networks which is the innovative and digital way of
communication. Initially, it only had the connection and availability of computers by the time
passed different type of innovation obtain by the internet. The very first internet connection
was introduced by J C R Licklider in 1962, which named galactic network and that was the
interconnection of several computers objective to access the data (Lin, 2016). In the
beginning, DARPA (The Defence Advanced Research Project Agency) introduced which
was the commercial existence of the internet. After some modifications in the existing
concept ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) was established which
was mainly used to build the first official email server. Afterwards, ARPANET becomes the
most used server for inter-services. The innovation included the use of packet switching
which made the communication expanded one place to another. that was some of the
concepts which showed the history and evaluation of internet which become the innovation
of digitalization?
The year of 1973 become the evidence of first protocol and Ethernet which enabled people to
communicate with each other. Another option which was provided on this was related to the
downloading of different files. In the year 1982 very first internet connection was introduced
which had modified in 1998 to make it available for several connected devices on the similar
time. the year 1989, become the huge and tremendous growing year in the history of the
internet. In this particular year, the World Wide Web (WWW) was introduced which made
approx. 25 countries connected (Modi, et. al., 2014). After this innovation, one other growth
was accomplished by Microsoft which introduced their browser application Mac OS to make
the internet more related to the people. the WWW made innovations rapidly and become
available for the population by 1991. The year 1992 becomes the evidence of first internet
surfing and that was the year when audio and video play was introduced on the internet which
made the people more attracted to this innovation.
In the year 1994, the first website was introduced which become another innovation in the
usage of internet. the further different website was launched and made more modification in
internet usage. the only use of WWW was not enough to make the accepted evaluations of
the internet. As a result of more innovation and digitalization, Google was introduced in
1998. This innovation made more convenient and flexible use of the internet worldwide

(Esposti, 2014). Different browsers were introduced in 1999 like Mozilla and Firefox which
introduced more applicable use of the internet and expand the innovation. All of these
innovations provide relevance and justification for the growth of the internet. That can also
understand that initially it was invented to make the commercial and educational life better
and used by the professionals. the different changes adequate the growth and development of
lifestyle. The main reason to make such innovation was to build a more innovative and
connected world. Thus, it can be stated that if people use it in a positive manner it is one of
the most advantageous modernization to be used.
Current situation
The current generation likes to spend most of their time on the internet. This has become a
more necessary thing in current lifestyle whether it could be for personal or professional use.
That has been used that in the past years the use of the internet rapidly increased and the
number of internet users is increasing on a large scale day by day. The current definition of
internet relates to the use of the internet to transform communication with other people,
surfing to get the information and making the world tiny enough to explore new things via
one click (Faden, et. al., 2013). In the current period, there are several modes of using the
internet as the current internet users are not limited to computers and web browsers. Different
smartphones, tablet, laptops are some of the other movable sources which can be used to use
the internet. That has been observed that in the recent year 2018 the population of internet
users got a rapid increase.
The people are active on different internet sources. According to one of the global internet
report in late 2018, the total amount of internet users was approx. 4.1 billion which is quite
larger than the rate of 2017 as in that year the number of internet users were 3.2 million. In
the current time, most internet users are in Asia. According to the same report Asia is
proceeding with the 48% of entire internet usage which clearly defines that almost half of the
internet users are in Asia as per the timeline of 2018 (Newell and Marabelli, 2015). Even the
country which is on the second number has major differences from Asia as the country
Europe is on the second number and holds 26.8% users of the internet. In the context of Asia
currently, a large number of internet users are in China as per the survey china itself attain
20% of the entire internet users of the current time. According to the current survey, the total
number of internet users in China is twofold of the entire population of the US.

The interaction of children with internet usage is rapidly increasing from the past few years.
That had been observed that the children are most likely using the internet and making their
most of the time spent on the internet. when the internet was introduced the approximate
ration of children internet was related to 11-15% which had rapidly increased in the year
2015 to 60-80%. The current rate of children affection towards the internet is much more than
the acceptations. The major reason behind such increment is related to the current situational
and digital changes. Parents are having a busy life and students also wants to become more
connected to the social world. This becomes the major reason for internet availability for
children. Children mostly use the internet for chatting and gaming which is good for them but
in a certain limit (Gifford and Nilsson, 2014). Children are using the internet more than need
which is directly affecting their education and health factors and needs to be resolved by the
time.
Ethical and security concerns of the internet for children
The current only knows about the rapid changes and innovations as they do not have any of
the interaction with simplicity and limited lifestyle. Current parents are also that much busy
in their specific situations as they do not have much time to look after their children
activities. These are some of the major reasons which are expanding the children interest
towards the internet. most of the children have knowledge about internet usage but several
children do not have much knowledge and they take is like their best time pass (Notar, et. al.,
2013). Children mind is not mature to understand the wide world of internet and most of the
time children do not understand the situation of dilemma and make themselves linked the
issues. There are several of the application which requires the personal information of
applicant some of them are real and other just to hack the details of the applicant.
That has been observed that most of the children make there and their family details available
on the internet which makes a negative impact on their safety and harms their ethnicity. This
is one of the examples of such a crucial issue there are some of the other aspects which
affects the security of children. Internet is the widest mode of making the searches and
explore the world there are many things on the internet which are not good and necessary to
be watched by the children. But that is the drawback of the current generation that they want
to know about different things on a very early stage (Ross, et. al., 2013). That comes to try
for children as well they make themselves motivated to watch that unnecessary thing which
negatively impacts their mindset. This affects their mental and behavioural growth.

According to the research of respective doctors, these issues are most necessary to be
resolved by the time as these are not only affecting their growth but also making their
lifestyle harsh.
This can be understood that the children are the most beneficiary thing for the children to
explore new and innovative things and also they can communicate with different people. This
can help them to the extent their knowledge and strengthen their mind-set. But that is also
true that the consequences majorly depend on the activities of children. Current child
generation is not understanding the positive impact of internet usage and making it negative
on their growth and development (Maschi, et. al., 2019). That has been observed that most of
the children hide their internet activities from their families. There are mainly two reasons
behind doing the same one that they are doing something unethical on the internet and other
they are feared from the scolding nature for their parents. Both of these reasons are negative
for the growth and development of personal growth of children as they think themselves
unsafe at their home place. This is most necessary to resolve such issues to make the future of
children safe and secure.
The gap in knowledge that needs to be addressed
The analysis and research of past data gathering resources made an understanding of the
invention and usage of interment. This helped to make the justification for the major reason
behind implementing the internet. That was understood that the internment was invented to
make the commercial and business life easier and to make them relate to different needed
factors. Different modifications and changes of the internet by the passing time also discussed
which made an understanding about formation and modification of the internet. That was also
discussed that at the current time of period different age group of people are using the internet
which is affecting them and negatively surrounded children (Swist, et. al., 2015). That
research and gathered made some understandings about the needs and current stage of the
internet. That was observed that children are using the internet due to rapid changes in
technology and facilities in the current time of period.
That was also discussed that the children are engaging themselves in online games which are
distracting their mind from education. In the current time education growth laid down due to
the high core usage of internet (Hemsley, et. al., 2017). That was also observed that the
children are not interested in outdoor activities which are blocking up their physical growth to
the internet world only. The issues and challenges of internet users have been achieved apart

from that different sources made the understanding about negative influences of children.
However different research approaches were not able to make the understanding about a
different ethical and social resolution which can help to make the issue to be resolved. The
understanding of a specific issue is not enough to get rid of the challenges. This is also
necessary to understand that how can these issues be resolved (Gamble, 2012). The specific
research will focus on to make the understanding of those factors which can be helpful to
solve the ethical and social issues of children.
To resolve the issue this is essentially required to understand the availability of resources and
needs of improvement. The issues can be resolved from the place where they had enacted.
The issue of children usage of internet had obtained from their families and society. To get
rid of such issues this is most necessary to make an understanding about different aspects of
their family and social background. This analysis majorly requires the viewpoints of children
and their surroundings (Yani-de-Soriano, et. al., 2012). This internal searching will help to
understand those loopholes which are making the children more attracted to virtual life as
compare to real life. The research will majorly require to have some real-life examples which
will help to make the understanding of different aspects of the real and virtual conflicts. The
understanding of research will help to make block up the gap between current knowledge and
will try to modify the scenarios.

The research approaches are the most effective method to collect and gather information. It
basically depends on the researcher which method he chooses and assumes a suitable method.
Based on the research topic, qualitative and quantitative research approaches are the best
possible methods as follows:
 Qualitative research method: This research method or approaches is used to prepare
general reports and details. The research approach is beneficial in finding the data and
information which is useful in the report (Darling, 2016). This research approach
analyses the data and concept of theories instead of focusing on graphical and
numerical data. The qualitative research approaches help to gather data which
highlight the solution of problems of the research topic. Involvement of these research
methods has basically removed the complexities and issue of the research topic. It
may include different authors’ views, journal article, reports, etc. Qualitative research
approach helps to get the data which requires a deep and clear identification to
administrate the research topic effectively. The use of different sources by the
researcher is to explore the research topic. Basically, the main objective of gathering
data and information is to objectify what are the issues and problems are facing by the
general people and why these problems are arising.
 Quantitative research method: quantitative research methods are also a type of
research approach used by the researcher to find and collect the data. Through these
research methods, the researcher can find how many times the problem takes place in
the context of the general public. Quantitative research methods get the data with the
help of graphical representation and numerical statistics. The researcher collects the
data and gives an appropriate structure to its information with the help of unique
graphics and structures and also making them understandable. The quantitative
research approach is slightly typical than any other research approach because it may
include different methods such as random sampling method, questionnaire, case
studies, etc. These are the different tools and techniques have been used in the
research approach to find and collect the data. This research method basically gathers
information with the help of close-ended questions that gives questionable answers.
