The article discusses about the causes and the consequences of child obesity. Childhood
obesity is continuously increasing and reached great levels in developed nation’s and also
developing nations. Moreover childhood obesity has a major impact on both psychological and
physical health of a child. Moreover there is common tendency of the obese children
remaining obese even when they reach their adulthood and therefore they become more
vulnerable to communicable disease such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes at a young
age. There are numerous reasons behind child obesity. Some of these reasons includes-
lifestyle preferences of a child, environmental factors, and also the cultural environment plays
a major role in developing child obesity. Some of the most common reasons of overweight and
child obesity includes increased amount of sugar intake and also calories. It has also been
understood from the paper, that the rates of child obesity is continually increasing because of
increased sugar intake in form of soft drinks, decline in the physical activity and also due to
increasing portion sizes. Moreover it has been seen that childhood obesity leads to negative

impact on the social, physical, and also the emotional wellbeing of the children and it badly
affects their self-esteem. I feel that the author has rightfully identified some of the major
causes of child obesity and also the consequences of the same. As it is evident from the list of
disorders that has been named by the author that may be a result of child obesity.

According to the government’s report, a survey conducted by the Australian Bureau Of
Statistics National Health Survey showed that about 24.9% of the children who were of the age
group 5-17 were wither obsess or overweight in Australia. Therefore it has become necessary
to address the issues of childhood obesity and overweight issues through a community wide
multi-faceted approach. In order to tackle the issue of overweight and child obesity in
Australia, a number of preventive health measures have been implemented by the Department
of Health. These measures help in providing sufficient information to the families such that
they can make informed decisions and also take care of their own wellbeing and health.
According to the report, in order to get long term results it is necessary for families to take
their 2on decision related to what they eat and which physical activity can be carried out by
them. According to the national obesity Summit, various factors have been understood that
leads to obesity and overweight in children of Australia and also for determining the priority
areas of action. The article attracts the attention of the audience with the help of the data
shared in it and also because of various other reports that have been made at the time of
national obesity summit.

Book/book chapter annotation (summary and evaluation) (180 words)
Childhood obesity is related to a number of risks for the entire population and the children in
particular. A number of initiatives have been undertaken including the successful and the
unsuccessful ones that were all aimed at improving the health of the children and the
population as a whole. And the book has successfully identified the fact that this particular
disorder if isolated from other medical disorders or conditions then it can be said that there has
not been much improvements in case of this disorder. There have been a number of complex
factors that have contributed to this issue of chi obesity. Therefore the book aim at helping all
the associations, professionals and other authorities who are engaged in solving this problem.
The book gas been designed in a way that it can be used by both developed and developing
nations. The book is divided into four main parts- context, the evidence synthesis, the
generation of evidence and practice and policy. I feel that the book is much relevant for all
those who are trying to solve the problem of obesity because this book makes use of practical
examples and does not provide any particular solutions but helps their audience in carrying out
certain activities for overcoming the issue.

This article discusses about the impact of family lifestyle and dynamics on childhood obesity.
According to the article the childhood obesity is continuously increasing however the causes
are not known completely. Many new interventions of the public health department aims at
reducing the childhood obesity by focusing on their entire family. The method used by that
was used by the author of the study was MCS or Millennium Cohort Study and it was done in
order to understand the relationship between the childhood obesity and the family lifestyles
that is adopted by the family of which the child is a part. Moreover the results revealed that the
family dynamic and lifestyle has a significant impact on the childhood obesity and also
includes factors such as the parental weight, the family diet, family lifestyle and similar other
factors. Therefore it has also been fund that the health care interventions need to be focusing
on changing the family lifestyle such that the childhood obesity can be treated as soon as
possible. The author has clearly defined the role of family lifestyle and dynamics in affecting
childhood obesity. Moreover the author has used very simple language throughout the paper
which has makes it easier for the readers to interpret and understand the same.
