Canada discriminates against First Nation
children and continues to over-represent
indigenous children in Child Welfare systems
and schemes.
Indigenous youth exposed to child welfare
systems are among society’s most vulnerable
citizens.
Risks of homelessness, mental health issues,
substance use, imprisonment, sexual abuse
and unwanted pregnancy are exposed to
Child Welfare Systems.
Policy makers and governments have failed
to take actions to address the negative
outcomes among the indigenous children and
youth whom they are bound to protect and
uphold their integrity (Barker, Alfred & Kerr,
2014).

Decentralized government of Canada
creates problem in child welfare systems.
Poor indigenous girl children are at more
risk than other children.
Poor indigenous children are neglected
more than abused or maltreated during
the interventions.
Poverty and misery of such children are
highlighted by the government with
postcolonial prejudices and racist
mindset.

child welfare systems.
Media can be critical to intervention techniques of
child welfare systems of Canada (Fuchs, 2017).
Media has capabilities to bring out flaws and opinions
regarding child welfare systems in Canada.
Media can act as representatives of the stakeholders of
child welfare systems.
