Child and Youth Care Assignment: Reflection and Presentation Project

This assignment is a comprehensive project for a Child and Youth Care (CYC) course, requiring a personal reflection and a presentation. INTRODUCTION
Children are individuals who have their own set of perceptions, attitude,
meanings and ideas about the world and the social surroundings which
should be respected.
It is important to understand the health, cognitive, behavioural, mental
health and social, emotional needs of the children so that the care
process is more effective and in every stage, the care workers should
maintain a professionalism.
At George Hull center for children and families, the same requirements
are met effectively.

PRACTICUM SETTINGS
The practicum settings provides the opportunities for family therapy, teaching. It also provides
intensive experience on communication, collaboration and relationship building. More importantly,
the settings provide great opportunities to learn about the mental health and care practice in
relation to the children and youth. As interns, it is a great place to learn about the critical thinking,
caring, problem solving the decision making skills. Teaching and caring the child, youth and his
parents with compassion and empathy is the main philosophy of work, here at the George and Hull
centre.

MISSION STATEMENT
At the George Hull center, the mission is to develop a family centered,
personalised support by focussing on the children’s strengths. An
intensive therapeutic approach is undertaken by multidisciplinary staffs
who has years of clinical excellence to bring about a measurable impact.

PROGRAMS AND ROLES
The centre provides :-
1. Mental health services - for the children and the youth.
2. Prevention and early intervention services - for the children and the
youth.
Their roles to improve the health and wellbeing of the children and youth. The programs aqre aimed at improving
and maintaining a state of well-being in the children and the youth. The centre also provides a diverse range of
programs to address different childhood clinical conditions that pertains to issues with cognition, attention,
behaviour, perception and more. Effective relationship building with the children and their families in strength
based framework is the objective of every program. The center provides an effective range of psychotherapy,
counselling, play therapy and child, parent education services.

ROLE OF CYC
The roles of the Child and youth care workers are many and it starts from
behavioural management to mental health management of the children
and the youth as well the improvement of relationships with their
families and friends (Shaw, K. C. (2019)
● The most important and critical function is to diagnose the exact
mental health conditions in the child, in accordance with the DSM -5.
● A holistic care is critical to the caring of the children, development and
growth of the children in terms of social skills such as acceptance,
respect for diversity and resilience as well.

CYC WORKING IN FRAMEWORK
The child and youth workers can work collaboratively with the other
disciplinary professionals in the mental health care and interventions
framework of the organisation and for that good communication, cultural
awareness and cultural competency plus collaboration skills is critical
(Anglin, J. (2019).
● The child and youth workers play a central role in the assessment,
implementation and evaluation of the child and youth care services.
They are very much involved in development of engagement
behaviours in the children and in stregthening of the family
frameworks plus social support of the children.
