Prejudice and discrimination among children negatively impacts their overall
development and growth along with their ability on receiving equal opportunities to learn new
things (Jacob, Kirshbaum and Preston, 2017). It also affect their desire of making friends as on
the behalf of prejudice and discrimination children can be left out of a group which can affect
their confidence thereby impacting their growth.

Case study 1
As Emma has autism this impacts her nervous system and affects her overall cognitive,
emotional, social and physical health. The people who form prejudice about her being because of
her inability in having social interaction label her as ‘rude’ which can affect her getting chance of
making friends. It also can affect her confidence to be surrounded with people as she might find
it difficult to adjust which can affect her confidence thereby impacting her overall learning and
growth process. It is important that the people round her try to interact with her politely so that
she can be encouraged to talk to people and feel comfortable in sharing her emotions freely. It
also important that her actions are well understood so that no one gets offended by her and she
can become more open to making friends and learning new things (Lord, 2017). Giving her a
positive and caring environment can also help in boosting her confidence so that she can learn
and develop through her life.
Case study 2
Humairah is being discriminated at her school based on her religion and other children in
school avoid talking to her because of the fear of terrorism. This affects her confidence and also
her ability of making friends at school which can negatively impact her growth as she is in her
growth years. Also this can create hatred for other people as they are afraid of interacting with
her which can affect her mental health. As she was off to Mecca for 6 weeks she has missed her
school it is important that the teachers of her class cooperates with her and try to establish an
environment in class where equal opportunities are given to her so that her learning can improve.
Also this can help in making her classmates more comfortable with her and making her friend
and helping her in her studies thereby boosting her confidence and her learning process.

Max is discriminated on the basis of him being physically differently disabled that can
negatively impact his confidence with making friends and socially interacting with others. Also
based on the prejudice that he won’t be able to play he is left out by other students at school and
he spends his time alone. It is thus important that the teachers of his class create an environment
where his classmates are encouraged to make him friend and involve him by playing games that
can include more sitting positions which can help in boosting Max’s confidence (Mantey, 2017).
Also this can help him in his growth and development as he can feel loved and cared by his
teachers and friends.
Conclusion
It is thus important that the children are not discriminated based on prejudice and are
given equal opportunities so that they can show their true talent and their confidence in learning
can increase thereby improving their living standard and quality of life.
