At present, I am 22 years old but I still do remember how I spent my childhood and what types
of I was into as a child. I was not social and used to barely interact with other people. As there
are many types of play, I would like to classify my plays as Solitary Play and Parallel Play.
Solitary play refers to the one where children play on their own ("What Is Solitary Play?
Definition, Age, Games, Examples, And More"). Similarly, on the different side, Parallel plays
refer to those play activities where a child plays with other children but do not interact with them
(Wong et al. 328). Here children do not interact but pay enough attention to others.
I used to sit and play alone. If to be specific, Drawing was the most common activity for me
throughout my childhood. I do remember that I have rarely played any game that involves many
children or pursue social interaction. Another activity that was common for me was to play with
a block that again comes under the category of solitary play. Apart from these activities, putting
a puzzle together, playing with wooden blocks and stacking nesting bowls are some other
activities that I played most as a child. As I mentioned that Parallel Play was also common for
me as at the age of 5-6 years, I started playing games with my neighbors, however, there also I
used to play alone but soon started learning from others where I observed different skills and
techniques. Then after my interest got developed for indoor plays. Therefore, conclusively to
state that the most common type of play for me as a child was Solitary Play and Parallel Play.
Further, I have talked with my uncle who has the age of 58 years and I have asked him about the
type of play, which was common for him in his childhood. I felt that we both have been in the
opposite type of play. Associative Play and Cooperative Play were the most common type of
play for him. Associative Play is those, which refers to the early interaction of children, where
they understand each other by asking to different questions ("Stage 5: Associative Play - Seriously
Kids"). Cooperative plays are those where children interact with each other and do some activities

to attain common goal (Fromberg and Bergen). He stated that in his childhood, there was less
technology and children used to share time with other children. He started interacting with others
soon and thereafter started playing with them, regularly.
They share ideas and work together. He used to play different types of team games. Further
building dens was another activity that he took part most into. My uncle used to interact with
other children very much. He spent his childhood at the time where people used to be more
social comparatively. He shared examples of some other activities that he was involved in. Ball
games, Ballon Tennis and Treasure hunt are some of such activities. These activities involve
many children and present cooperation between them and this was the reason as a child my
Cooperative plays seem to be the most common type of play for my uncle.
