1CHINESE HISTORY
Humans have been living in modern Thailand for more than 40,000 years now.
Thailand has evolved over the years as a stable democracy and economy in Southeast India. It
is also one of the popular tourist destinations. The Thai culture is quite different from rest of
the cultures (Taylor, 2016). The main religion followed by the Thai people is Theravada
Buddhism. In order to negotiate with a firm of Thailand, it is essential to respect their faiths
and beliefs.
People of Thailand have an official language called Thai, which are practiced, in
homes, colleges and schools throughout the country, although various dialects are used in
Southern and Northern provinces (Arghiros, 2016). The knowledge of Thai language is
necessary in order to negotiate with the people of Thailand. Good communication skill and
no communication barrier will help to negotiate easily.
Thai religion greets each other with respect and reverence. They traditionally use the
word “wai” in order to greet anyone. The young people offer it. They press their hands
together and bow the head to touch the fingertips (Arghiros, 2016). A practice considered to
be wrong by the Thai people is touching anyone’s head. These customs should be followed in
order to meet the Thai people and carry out a successful conversation.
People of Thailand shows no offence in physical contact, which simply denotes that
strong bonding, allows physical touch from one another of same or different gender. The
royal family of Thailand is to be respected in order to carry out negotiation with any Thai
firm (Arghiros, 2016). Strict laws will be enforced if the monarchy is not given the respect.
Business card is a common thing in most of the Asian countries. In any business meet,
business cards are exchanged which is given by both the hands written in Thai or English
language. Business cards should be taken formally in two hands to show respect (Arghiros,

2016). The business card must include the job title, in order to make the Thai managers
understand the designation of the person negotiating on behalf of the company.
A prior appointment for the meeting is required. Arriving on time is an essential
factor for all the Thai companies. These key factors if kept in mind will help to negotiate
easily and grow the business of the organization.
