Introduction
The heuristic principle which plays a significant role in the design and development of any user
interface has been explained in this report in order to evaluate the designed application for the
cinema hall along with different errors and issued identified in the design which needs to be
correct with the steps provided. Also, different steps have been discussed in the report in order to
help an individual with their design process and enhance the knowledge and understanding
related to the design of an attractive and user-friendly user interface.

Evaluation of designed interface with heuristic usability
Heuristic Principles: It consists of ten basic principles defined by the Nielson on basis of better
design and develops a better user interface to be used by different users. These principles play a
significant role in designing of user interface with better functionality as well as attractive design
in order to provide the best user-friendly interface for the users (Sanz et al. 2016). Here, different
principles have been explained along with errors which were identified in the designed UI for
cinema hall along with their significant role.
Consistency of design and standards
Issue identified by: Seshu
Location of issue: Help screen, Successful payment screen, the Booking information screen
Description of issue: The layout of all the three screens are different and failed to maintain the
consistency of the design.
Why the issue is a problem: The layout of different pages of the designed UI must be the same in
order to maintain the consistency and the standard the complete design. Here, the logo of the
cinema hall which was available in the top on other screens was missing on the “Help” page.
Also, the layout of both successful payment and booking information page not matching, both
have different “Booking ID” showing over the screen.
Significance of issue: Medium
Matching of designed UI between system and the real world
Issue identified by: Hari
Location of issue: Redeem Voucher screen
Description of issue: On the redeem voucher screen, there is an option to enter the barcode
number for the voucher which is totally invalid. It must be an option to enter a voucher code or
number to redeem the voucher along with another option to scan the barcode of the voucher.
Also, the option to enter pin does not require.

Why the issue is a problem: The designed screen to redeem the voucher does not match with the
real world system and failed to follow the principle to match with system and the real world as
different system which is available in the current world have option to enter the voucher code or
number along with another option to scan the voucher or bar code in order to redeem the
voucher.
Significance of issue: High
Flexibility and the efficiency of use in designed UI
Issue identified by: Hari
Location of issue: Book showtime screen
Description of issue: Button to enter/select date is unavailable
Why the issue is a problem: In order to provide better efficiency as well as flexibility with the
design, there must be options available for the user to enter particular date & time on which they
want to book the movie.
Significance of issue: Low
Visibility of system status in designed UI
Issue identified by: Seshu
Location of issue: Internet banking screen
Description of issue: Here, on the internet banking screen, an option to enter user id and
password is available but there is no option to select the option available to select the bank which
the user wants to use for payment.
Why the issue is a problem: Due to unavailability of option to select the bank, the user will not
be able to log in to his/her specific bank account through which payment needs to be done and
might fail to use the internet banking option for the payment. Also, there must be a logo or image
of the bank available through which payment will be done as per the details entered by the user
for better visibility and efficiency of the screen (Jimenez et al. 2016).
Significance of issue: High

Freedom and user control on designed UI
Issue identified by: Seshu
Location of issue: Registration screen, Forgot password screen, Logout screen
Description of issue: Back button unavailable on these screens.
Why the issue is a problem: All three screens has been designed properly but user cannot go
back to previous screen if he/she wants to move on back screen if he/she has selected incorrect
option especially when user clicked on logout option but wants to use the application then back
button will help him to go back and continue his work instead of re-login to the account again to
continue the action.
Significance of issue: High
Error prevention method/approach
Issue identified by: Hari
Location of issue: Staff login screen, Registration screen, Forgot password screen, the Payment
screen
Description of issue: Unavailability of error message or warning if incorrect details or mismatch
found in the details entered by the user.
Why the issue is a problem: Warning pop-up or alert message must be available on these screens
in order to provide error details in case of incorrect input of mismatch found in the entered
details by the user so that he/she can re-enter the correct details.
Significance of issue: Medium
Recovery from errors
Issue identified by: Seshu
Location of issue: Registration screen, Update profile screen

Description of issue: Unavailability of description for the password, their format and maximum
or minimum characters allowed so that the user can create an effective password for his/her
account. Also, validation of both created password and re-entered password is missing.
Why the issue is a problem: In order to help the user to create an effective password for their
account as well as quickly recover/correct the incorrect password created by them matching with
the system requirement, there must be an option available to describe all the details of created
password along with their validation.
Significance of issue: High
Authentic and minimalist design for the UI
Issue identified by: Seshu
Location of issue: Book Show seat, Help screen, Book show time
Description of issue: Unavailability of the logo for the cinema hall and unwanted buttons
available at the bottom of the screen.
Why the issue is a problem: In order to provide a better authentic look along with minimalist
design for the interface, there should be a logo at the top of the screen. Also, the buttons
available at the bottom of the screen is not required on each and every screen instead of those
unwanted buttons more functions can be included in the design.
Significance of issue: Low
Recognition rather than recall principle
Issue identified by: Hari
Location of issue: Registration screen
Description of issue: The prompt showing registration successful does not provide the details of
customer/staff Id after registration in order.
Why the issue is a problem: In order to login to registered account to access the application, the
details of customer/staff Id after registration must be provided so that user can use that id to login

to his/her account as showing on the staff login screen where user needs to input staff if and
password to login to his/her account.
Significance of issue: High
Help and documentation available on the designed UI
Issue identified by: Seshu
Location of issue: Help screen, feedback screen
Description of issue: Unavailability of real-time assistance for users
Why the issue is a problem: In order to provide better help and feedback option to users, there
must be an option available for the real-time assistance for the user who is getting the error while
accessing his/her account, transactions, booking and others (Freiberg and Chong, 2016).
Significance of issue: Medium

Remediation
Remediation for the various issue and errors identified by both the members (i.e. Hari and Seshu)
has been given below:
Remediation for the identified errors and issues by Hari:
• There must be prompt or screen to show the details of the customer such as customer
id, membership type and other so that user can use those details as per the
requirement.
• There must be a warning pop-up or message to inform the user if he/she entered
incorrect details required by the system or mismatch with entered data and system
requirement.
• There must be a button available to enter date and time by the user to select a movie
on the specific date on which the user wants to book the movie.
• There must be an option to enter voucher code or scan the voucher/barcode to redeem
the voucher which provides better functionality for the user.
Remediation for the identified errors and issues by Seshu:
• There must be an option for real-time assistance for the users in order to provide help
and collect feedback on a real-time basis for their resolution.
• There must be a logo of a cinema hall on all the screens in order to provide an
authenticate look and consistent design.
• There should be back button available on each and every screen so that user can go
back to the previous page at any time from any screen.
• There must be an image or the logo of the selected bank on the internet banking
screen for better visibility for the user.
• Also, there must be a list of different banks showing on the internet banking page so
that user can select a particular bank with which they have their account.
• The layout and designing of all the screens of the application must be similar in order
to provide consistency with the designed application and user interface.

Usability strategy
It refers to the steps and methods used to avoid and minimize different errors and issues which
were identified in the complete designing process of the user interface for the cinema hall
(González-Pérez et al. 2017). Some of the common steps are as follow:
• Preparing a checklist for the functions to be used in the design
• Matching all the functions mentioned in the checklist after implementation on the
design.
• Selection of an alternate source in case of unavailability of any source or function in
the design.
• Selecting the best options and methods for the design.
• Selecting the best images and contents to be used in the design.
• Analyzing and evaluating complete design on the basis of user functionality.
Steps which needs to be followed before designing
• Checklist for the functions.
• Checklist for the requirements.
• Selection of best options and sources.
• Development of flow diagram for the complete design process.
• Development of innovative ideas to be used in the design.
• Development of layout or wireframe for the design
• Collecting steps and methods on the basis of research done on other application
available in the market.
Steps which needs to be followed at the time of designing
• Development of user-friendly contents
• Consistent layout for all the screens
• Involvement of an attractive image instead of text description
• Proper use of buttons and symbols in the design
• Functions should be designed matching with the real-world system
• Involvement of minimalist design to avoid unwanted information on the screens

• Selection of attractive color, images, and fonts matching with the objective of the
design and have high visibility for the users.
• Using clear contents in easy to understand language.
Steps which needs to be followed after completion of designing
• Checking proper flow which should be maintained in the complete design.
• Removal of unwanted contents and information from the design which is not
required.
• Checking all the linking if they are working properly or not.
• Checking navigation of the complete design.
• Checking all the functions if they are working properly or not.
• Modification if any required in the design for better functionality
• Proper testing of the designed application.
• Removal of errors and mistakes done in the design.

Conclusion
Different errors and issues which have been identified within the designed UI for the cinema hall
has been explained in the report in order to provide a better understanding of different facts and
important principles which must be followed in the design. It also contains all the steps and
methods to correct those errors to develop best design with high efficiency and functionality for
the users along with different steps which needs to be followed by the developer before the
designing, at the time of designing and after successful completion of design in order to avoid
errors and minimize mistakes which resulted in successful completion of this report.
