Title: Cinema Life
Author:
Author Name:
Abstract
The application is named as “Cinema Life” was designed with the help of usability principles. It
is the cinema hall application where users can book movies online with the help of mobile
devices and tablets. The main purpose of the application is to provide the advance facility to the
local cinema halls for ticket booking and the latest details of the movies. Almost all 10 usability
principles were used for designing the tablet-based application. According to the sector of
development, it results that the design of the application was implemented successfully with the
completion of the user’s requirements. In the cinema hall application, GUI or the prototype was
designed by understanding each stage of application designing phase. It will reduce the working
of the development sector because, with the help of these prototypes, the application for the
cinema hall will be designed and developed easily for making the vast interaction in the
competitive world.
Introduction
The tablet-based application was designed with the help of usability principles. It is designed by
considering the requirements of the end users. The designed application is named as “Cinema
Life” from where users can book tickets for movies via the online medium from anywhere and
anytime. In the research paper, the Advance Movie Ticket System (AMTS) was designed with
the help of usability principles of Jakob Nielsen. The complete interface of the application was
designed by the usage of the heuristic principle. In this research paper, user-centered design
models are used for making the standard prototype of application which supports every
environment of GUI application (Shaik, et al., 2014).
In the research paper, the application is evaluated by considering the usability principles which
were used properly in the designed application. The main use of heuristic principles is to make
the application user-friendly or easy to use.
In the research paper, the application is totally related to our designed application of cinema
ticket booking system. In this, the application is also used for movie ticket booking system which
is so helpful for the end users for book tickets of their selected movies. In our designed
application, users can also select their seats on their own and can do transactions for finalizing
the booking of movie tickets.
Reflection of the Interface Designs
a. User Interface Designs for the application:
With the help of usability principles, the cinema hall application is been designed for covering all
requirements of the users. The most common principles of Jakob Nielsen was used for designing
the prototypes of the application. There were almost ten usability principles of Jakob Nielsen
which were used in the application, such as:

Document Page
Match between system and the real world: In this principle, it follows the conventions of
the real world which makes the information so natural or in the logical order. It covers almost
every page of the tablet-based application.
Visibility of System Status: In this principle, it provides the current status of the running
activity on the screen. In our cinema hall application, it covers the splash screen functionality
where user can see that status of the running application.
User Control and Freedom: In this principle, it will help to find the mistake and also
provide the option for correcting the mistakes. In the payment page and the login page, this
principle is been covered.
Error Prevention: In this principle, it shows the error message for preventing errors. In the
payment page, it is used when the user enters the wrong input then it will give the validations
for protecting mistakes.
Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors: In this principle, it provides the
confirmation message in the plain language and also suggests valid solutions. It is covered in
the logout confirmation box.
Consistency and Standards: In this principle, it is used for making the user interface
standardized and consistent for every stage. It covered almost every page of the application,
such as component size, color, and style.
Recognition rather than recall: In this principle, it provides suggestions while searching for
anything in the application. This principle covers in the Search bar component, where the
user can search the movies for ticket bookings.
Flexibility and efficiency of use: In this principle, it provides flexibility in the application. It
covers the whole designed application where experienced users and the inexperienced users
can own the application on their own.
Aesthetic and minimalist design: In this principle, it keeps the restrictions in the whole
application for unnecessary information. It covers almost complete application where
relevant data is provided with the help of components such as images.
Help and Documentation: In this principle, the proper helping verbs or the documentation
is provided in many screens of application such as payment page, login page, and the
registration screen (Jimenez, et al., 2016).
b. How my designs meet user requirements and enhance their experience.
The user interface of the application is designed with the help of usability principles for
providing better services for ticket booking of movies in the Cinema Hall. It is the user-friendly
application and it covers every requirement of the users such as:
- At least 10 theaters will be displayed where the different movies were running
simultaneously.
- Customers will able to book their seats with their own selection for the specific movie.
- Customer will able to select at least or more than one seat in one time for the specific
movie.
- After confirmation of movie ticket booking, they can pay the charges via payment
methods such as debit card and the credit card.
- After confirmation of tickets, the receipt option is also provided in the application where
customer can view their ticket details.
- Car parking facility is also provided in the application where customers can book their
parking for 3 hours and 3 + 2 hours.

- The new customer has to register themselves in the application with the required details
such as name, contact details, and the address.
- Only registered or authorized users can use the complete functionality of the application.
c. What factors influenced my design, how they influenced it and why?
There were various factors which influenced my design of the cinema hall application. These
were defined below:
- User Requirements: The requirements of the users are considered while designing the
tablet-based application of Cinema Hall. The complete design is implemented with the
help of usability principles.
- Restrictions: The restriction functionality is also provided in such as pages of the
application. Only registered or authorized users can use the complete functionality of the
application with the help of valid login credentials.
- Design Principles: In the application, all ten usability principles were used for designing
the application interface.
- Business and Organizational Requirements: The design is user-friendly and can also
use for the business purpose to make the business advance in future times.
- Competitors: The complete application is designed with the proper strategy to grow the
business in the competitive market (Akinyede, et al., 2017).
d. Discussion on the similar interfaces.
With the help of usability principles, the tablet-based application is designed for ticket booking
for movies. The similar kind of application is used for comparing our design and the
functionality of the ticket booking application. The similar application is named as “Flicks”
referred in Figure 4, is quite similar to our design. In this application, customers can book tickets
for cinemas nationwide.
After the comparison of our design with the similar kind of application, the result found that our
design interface is somehow better because the parking booking facility is also provided to the
customers where they can book their parking space via the application.
Conclusion
In the cinema hall application, it is designed for the customers for booking tickets of movies
from anywhere and anytime. In the designed application, the better or the advanced functionality
is been used for covering all the requirements of the users. Only, authorized users can use the
functionality of the application. Authorized users can select their movies, then they can select the
seats required to them with their choice. After selecting tickets, they will move to the payment
page where they can select the payment option for booking confirmation.
