Business communication is information sharing between people outside and inside a
business that is performed for benefit of commercial (Marrone, Shah and Gracia - Sancho, 2016).
The company shares information to promote the products as well as services to customers. The
Cinnamon Grand Hotel is a five star luxury hotel which is situated in Sri Lanka. The report will
lay emphasis on purpose and principle of types of organizational communication. Principle of
effective communication will be explained under this report. The report will cover the
communication practise and the analysis of barriers and related discussion to overcome these
barriers through strategies will be highlighted in this report. The effectiveness of
interdepartmental communication will be covered in this report.
LITERATURE REVIEW
LO1 The purposes and principles behind different forms of organizational communication.
In accordance with Lee, Choi, and Hyeon (2015) The communication of any business is
executed for the purpose of proper and smooth functioning of any business. In hospitality
industry, the hotels are kept informed their members of staff in their work place to develop and
coordinate with other members. Through effective communication the appropriate message is
reach to right person at right time. In addition to this Vroman, Arthanat and Lysack, (2015)
Managers need to communicate with employees to carry out the task and about timelines of the
desired task. The manager by applying specific communication skills to motivate the staff
members. The purpose of communication in organization is to motivate the employees so that
they can perform well to accomplish the task.
In the view point of Perlman, Kaufman, and Speciner (2016) The purpose of
communication also involves and fulfils aspect of socialization. The hospitality industry enable
effective communication for the purpose of establishing effective networking work place and
formal as well as informal meetings. This enables to create goodwill in business along with
social setting among employees. According to the Rakkesh, Weerasinghe, and Ranasinghe
(2016) Organizational communication brings business alive as this is a crucial factor in deciding
future of business, An effective communication is executed under the purpose of managing and
working out all the task well in a business.
As per the view of Bhattacharyya, and Palit (2016) The communication in an
organization executes in different forms like formal and informal communication are generally

department members provides aid in order to coordinate with each other by enabling consistent

Language barriers - The barrier of language is a great barrier to effective communication
in hotel Cinnamon Grand hotel (Fujimura, Pierce, and Sutherland, 2015). The message includes
jargon and abbreviations when communicating with audience and misinterpretation among them
is common as the terminologies use by speaker is not familiar with employees and other
members.
Physical barriers - The communication execution is easier in shorter distance and takes
time with the increase in distance (Barriers to effective communication, 2019). The execution of
face to face communication is available but with the advancement of technology the impact of
this barrier reduces.
Systematic barriers - The barrier exists in companies that follows long formal
communication in work place. The delay in communication and distort of message is common in
