CIPD Level 7 Assignment 8
i) Management of interpersonal relationships
Interpersonal relationships can be created and maintained when a friendly environment is created
among people who work as a group. I did manage my interpersonal relationships at workplace
through having a positive attitude towards my work, friends and workmates. A positive attitude
was a great indicator of maturity in my talks whilst at and away from the workplace. More so,
the course of Business Fundamentals that was focused on Effective Networking that I completed
at The Open University in November 2018 equipped me with competence of creating friendly
environments with others so as to manage interpersonal relationships. Positive attitude approach
was exhibited in form of showing respect to my workmates, the work as well as the
organizations that I have worked for since 2002 to date. I always exhibited my positive attitude
through smiles, cheering whilst having conversation with my workmates and friends. Most
importantly, greeting others with a cheerfully mood is a positive sign that you are friendly and
thus people were attracted to be because of my positive attitude. In addition, I would
congratulate and appreciate colleagues who achieve certain milestones like improved
performance in their duties and careers as a way of indicating my positive attitude (Educba.com
2019). All the above indicators of positive attitude have helped me to maintain sound
interpersonal relationships with other due to the fact that others always find it easy to associate
with me.
ii) Decision making and problem solving
Completion of HR fundamentals course at Chartered institute of Personnel and Development
(CIPD) in January 2019 helped to enhance my decision making and problem solving skills whilst
identifying and addressing any challenges like conflicts at workplace. I always prioritize making

decisions that help in meeting the interests of the organization, others as well as my own
personal interests. In this regard, I always attempt to make decisions that are ethical by
considering the generally acceptable values and culture of the organization and the community as
a whole so as to avoid violating interests of concerned parties. In time of conflicts at workplace, I
learned to apply problem solving skills by identifying the issues, evaluating options and listening
to views of conflicting parties so as to make appropriate decisions. In the due course, final
decisions concerning the conflicts were made after considering views of conflicting parties
without favoritism so that the decisions would not affect the rest of the team (Businessballs.com
2019). Therefore, making ethical decisions backed by effective problem solving skills have
helped me to manage my interpersonal skills with various members of the organization I have
worked for.
Leading and influencing
The above skills were attained through the course of management and leadership which was
cantered on leading a team that I completed at The Open University in November 2018. These
skills were exhibited in form of flexibility and motivating others to execute given duties of an
organization. In the due course, I always encouraged workmates to always consider challenges as
opportunities to learn and develop in their careers which motivated them to face various
pressures of their duties (Feldman 2014 p.172). In addition, my workmates developed confidence
in my opinions and thoughts whereby I was able to influence their actions through my advice and
motivation. As such, I took over the leadership role of encouraging and motivating other to
devote their efforts towards executing project activities of the organizations that I have worked
for (James & Jennifer 2011 p.169). Therefore, I have been able to lead and influence others into

tackling challenging with confidence and hope of overcoming them so as to achieve their career
and organization goals.
Interpreting financial information and managing finance
The skills and competence to interpret financial information and manage finance were attained
through the course of HR fundamentals that I completed at Chartered institute of Personnel and
Development (CIPD) in November 2018. I gained knowledge on how to collaborate and
prioritize honesty whilst recording business transactions so as to produce accurate and reliable
financial reports. Collaboration was exhibited during interpretation of information that is
represented on the organization’s balance sheets and income statements. More so, honesty and
collaboration are part of the professional values that a HR professional is required to exhibit
whilst executing the financial duties of the organization (Jay 2010). Therefore, I collaborated
with the financial department at the organization to manage and interpret financial information
so as to maintain healthy financial standards of the organization.
Demonstrating people management skills
The above skills were enhanced after completion of Train the Trainer Level 3 and 4 courses that
I pursued at St. Paul's College in January 2019. These skills have helped to identify, recruit and
maintain competent persons who have been able to move the organization forwards through their
experiences and academic proficiency. I have also been able to identify knowledge gaps among
persons which have helped me to recommend appropriate training packages to employees. These
trainings have been aimed at enhancing their skills and performance at their workplaces (Rob
2011). Therefore, I have been able to train a number of employees on problem solving, decision

making effective communication skills which has helped to transform their efforts towards
achieving organization and career goals.
A separate learning log for activities undertaken during the time of CIPD programme
Activity Contribution to development and effectiveness in the five skills
Supplementary study I undertook a supplementary study about better ways in which
conflicts among team members can be effectively handled without
affecting the attitude of the rest of the team. The above study was
undertaken to reduce on the incidences of some conflicting parties
feeling unsatisfied with the final judgments. Findings from the
study indicated that undertaking conflicting resolution training and
developing positive work relations among the team were more
feasible tools for addressing conflicts among team members. As
such, the supplementary study helped to widen my knowledge on
how to effectively address and prevent conflicts among
organization team so as to maintain their productivity (Peter 2011
p.263). Therefore, supplementary study helped to enhance my
decision making and problem solving skills.
Extracurricular activities I utilized the opportunity to engage in extracurricular activities as
a way of enhancing mu leading and influencing skills. I coordinate
and organized the organization team to compete in extracurricular
activities such as football, athletics and netball as a way of
enhancing unity among the team. In the due course, all the team
members positively responded to my proposal to engage in

extracurricular activities as a way of maintaining physical fitness
(Johnason 2013 p.24). Therefore, extracurricular activities helped
to enhance my leading and influencing skills given that the team
had confidence in my thoughts as they positively respond to my
proposal.

activities
CIPD national local branch activities basically involved
collaborating with other team members at local levels to interpret
and manage finances of CIPD. The above activity involved
sharing ideas and concerns about the various financial reporting
practices at the branch activities. In the due process, I was able to
learn about how elements of financial statements like assets,
profits, losses and liabilities are measured and recognized (Peter
2011 p.265). Therefore, the above activity helped to improve on
my skills in interpreting financial information and managing
finance.
Workplace activities Workplace activities involved organizing and conducting meeting
with the organization team so as to share ideas on how best the
team could improve their performances. More so, team
performance had significantly reduced due to lack of sound
interpersonal relations between the employees and management
team. As a result, we learned that establishing and maintaining
interpersonal relationships were essential to create a friendly
workplace to every team member. The activity improved my
