CE 1.2 Project Background
CE 1.2.1 Characteristics of the project
I had identified one of the major concern of our country is the transport and road quality
and it is affecting the nation in various ways. In these years the population has been increasing
rapidly and thus, transport services have also become active in same rapid manner and road
construction are either of low strength or are costly. I had identified that mixing polymer with the
bitumen was always a better option for the enhancement of the strength of the project however, it
is a costly approach for the country to utilize polymer in the road construction. I had leaded the
team towards this topic focusing the economic condition and transport condition of the country. I
had identified that used tyres could be much beneficial for the roads due to the vulcanization
property and synthetic rubber could be mixed with bitumen to improve its property.

CE 1.2.2 Objectives developed for the project
Successful deployment of the project needs to be based on an effective and motivated
goals and objectives, and considering these facts I have developed the following objectives for
the project:
 To measure the feasibility of the blending of used tyre with the bitumen in manner
to enhance the long life and strength of the roads
 To identify the properties of the bitumen after mixing used tyre with the
bituminous and evaluate whether it will be able to fulfil the needs and
requirements or not
 To provide an option to dispose waste tyres and thus, make the country pollution
free from waste tyres
CE 1.2.3 My area of work
I was chosen as the leader for the team in manner to execute the project successfully. I
had assigned divided the whole project I different sectors and based on the qualification of my
team members I had assigned different sectors for them according to their speciality. I had kept
myself in the sector of “Hot Mix Asphalt” and I had to execute testing on this sector. I was
assigned to collect related data to this sector and deliver my sector in an effective and efficient
manner. This section includes many sectors such as hot mix war mix, and cold mix asphalt and
the whole team was assigned with different sectors. It was my responsibility to keep everyone
motivated and make them accomplish their objectives according to the requirement of the
project.

CE 1.2.5 My responsibilities throughout the project
I was responsible for the successful delivery of the project and ensure that each team
member deliver the objectives of the project with complete responsibility. I had taken the
initiative of this laboratory evaluation of using waste tyres in the bitumen. Hot Mix Asphalt was
my area of work that I needed to accomplish in an efficient manner. I had identified the
properties of the HMA and collected results as:
 Reflective Cracking and Resistance to Fatigue
 “Resistance to Permanent Deformation”
 “Resistance to Low Temperature (Thermal) Cracking”
 Durability.

 Workability.
 “Resistance to Moisture Damage (Stripping)”

CE 1.3 Distinctive Activity
CE 1.3.1 Comprehending the theory of the project
Mixing admixture/s can be a beneficial factor for the construction of the roads and using
waste tyres can be more effective than any other admixture as it will enhance the strength and
resistance effect of the bitumen used for the construction of the road. I had delivered this project
to provide a useful place and application of the waste tyres those are in general increasing the
pollution in the environment. I had evaluated the property of the bitumen after mixing the waste
tyre and collected the data related to its properties and identified that this admixture has several
properties that could make it the most applicable material in the field of the civil engineering and
construction.
CE 1.3.2 Engineering knowledge and skills applied in the project
The individual without proper knowledge and skills would never be able to evaluate the
properties of the mixtures and thus, it was an important factor to have knowledge related to the
civil engineering. I had gathered various information related to the waste tyres and bitumen and
identified that the property of bitumen could be enhanced through blending waste tyre within it. I
had identified that using it than other polymer could be much cost effective and more efficient
product could be produced using this mixture. I had separated the asphalt with different layers
and based on its resistive factor to dust, temperature, water and other factors and thereafter I had

experimented the testing on the mixture in manner to identify the property of the bitumen and
thus evaluate its feasibility within the existing environment.
CE 1.3.3 Accomplishment and task performed
This project was completed in many phases according to the defined asphalt layers and
based on the situation and environment I had delivered testing and collected respective results
related to the property of the bitumen after admixing the waste tyres. I had executed the Marshall
Stability test on the Asphalt created after admixing minerals with the bitumen. I had used the
general methodology for the determination of the property of the bitumen that includes the Base
course and Surface Course. The testing procedure was executed in these two phases which are
the layers of the Hot Mix asphalt.
CE 1.3.4 Identified issues and their solutions
1.3.4.1 Issues
The feasibility was the most important concern while delivering the project as it will the
most important factor for the successful delivery of the project. Testing on the asphalt was a
dangerous activity for me and my team members and that could damage the team members
physically. Testing equipment were the costly factors that could have affected the budget of the
project and these objects were ‘must’ factor for the proper evaluation of the mixing.
1.3.4.2 Solutions
I had identified that feasibility could only be determined through the proper and effective
testing procedure and thus I had executed the Marshall Stability test considering all the aspects
of the admixture and soil mixture. Testing equipment was gathered from the college professor

who had positively supported me in the execution of this project. This saves a very large amount
of the money that makes the project less expensive and manages the budget of the project.
CE 1.3.5 Plan to produce creative and innovative work
I had applied my leadership qualities and academic learnings for the development of a
material that is cost effective and much efficient matter that is capable of replacing the old
mixtures which were costly. I had developed this project considering the pollution elimination
and enhancing the property of the bitumen that was the concerning topic for the transporting
service of this country. It was an innovative approach for dealing with these both problems with
a single approach and thus, present a revolutionary product and enhancing the economic
condition of the society.
CE 1.3.6 Collaborative work
The project was successfully delivered through the contribution of each team member
and thus, present an innovative approach in the contribution of making the country pollution free
and providing a better and long life roads for the transporting purposes. Everyone has
contributed their knowledge and practices for the successful deployment of the project. The
professor had also supported in each phase of the project and thus, his contribution was also a
valuable aspect for this project. I had leaded the team and each team was the important factor for
the project in manner to deliver the project successfully.

CE 1.4 Project Review
CE 1.4.1 Project Overview
I had leaded the team towards the delivery of a project that is economically feasible and
efficient solution for the recycling of waste tyres and enhancing its strength. Blending the waste
tyre residue with the bitumen has resulted in solution to many problems as it was a successful
project. This method could be useful for a country in limiting the pollution and presenting a
solution to the problems related to the long life of the roads and recycling the waste tyres. This
project was an approach of delivering the country with an effective idea of decreasing the
pollution level and enhancing the strength of the roads through blending accurate admixtures.
CE 1.4.2 My contribution to work
I had motivated the whole team towards the goals and objectives set during the planning
phase of the project. I had tried to keep the project very less complex and delver the expected
outcomes with the minimum investment. This method could be a revolutionary approach towards
enhancing the strength of the road and removing waste tyres from the environment. I had
contributed all my knowledge and experienced gained from other evaluation process and thus,
delivered a successful and innovative approach.
