1ENGINEERING PROJECT PREPARATION
Self-Introduction:
Myself Adams right now I am pursuing masters is civil engineering. I have already
completed my graduation in btech civil engineering. Before taking admission into the masters
I have worked in two construction project. In those my role was junior engineer, I was
supposed to help the senior engineers in work. In those site I was able to understand the job
role and the other project activities which I have earlier studied in the books only. I have
interacted with many people while I was in the site, like the stakeholders, project managers,
line managers and the other people who were associated with those projects. These exposure
helps me a lot to improve my knowledge of the civil engineering and the practical part as
well. My communication with the project associates also improved because of these
exposure. After completing the masters, I will have the opportunity to back in those site but
as a senior engineer of the project this time. I have chosen the fifth assessment which is E.
Communication and coordination which will help me gather the knowledge.
Effective Communication:
As a civil engineer I had to communicate with various personnel who were associate
with the industry. It is necessary to establish an effective communication for the project to
complete successfully. Lack of communication may affect the project and the project
manager associate with the project. If I am appointed as the senior project manager then I
have to establish an effective communication. The communication may not fail and all the
people must be aware of the certain information of the project so that any kind of
communication gap is not going to happen. As a project manager it is my duty to maintain
discipline while establishing the effective communication (Austin and Pinkleton, 2015). If I
as a project manager maintain the certain discipline then, the people with whom I am

establishing the communication will also behave disciplined which is necessary for
communicating effectively.
For an effecting communication it is necessary to identify the audience with whom I
am going to establish the effective communication. There are many different people are
associated with the project so all people are not need all the information. As a project
manager I will be targeting the audience that will be needed the information and by effective
communication. Audience plays a crucial part while establishing an effective communication.
As a speaker I need to analyze the content for the communication (Linton et al., 2015). The
language will also vary for different audience. The expectation of the listener also had to be
met for an effective communication.
Communication is a process of exchanging information between people or
organizations. The main purpose of the effective communication is to reach the project goal.
If the communication is not effective then there will be communication gap between the
people in the organization. So it is necessary to establish an effective communication, for a
project to complete successfully and achieve the goals (Kwiatkowski, 2017)..
Team management:
There are many project where the team is of multicultural. In the teams there are
people of various culture and various area works under a project. As a leader of the
multicultural team it is my duty to manage all the individuals in the team. As a leader I have
to adopt the cultural gaps, the team shape needed to be change by me, I can bring a manager
of higher level, when all the option failed I have to remove team members (Lauring, Paunova
and Butler, 2015).
A multilevel team consists of several individuals working in different level. As a team
leader I am the top of the team and the rest of the members works under me. As a team leader

I need to manage all the team members. I need to make sure that there will be no conflict
between the team members of different people. So as a team leader I need to control all the
members of the team so that any conflict will not affect the whole team or the project.
Multi-disciplinary means when individuals of different discipline work under a same
team. So as a team leader I have to manage all the team members by providing them
necessary information about the project. It is difficult for me to control all the team member
having different disciplinary (Ko, Wiklund and Nason, 2015). The chances are high of
conflict as different discipline teaches different things. Conflict can affect the whole industry
and the project so it is necessary mitigate the conflict between the individuals.
Project management methodologies:
As a project manager I have chosen the agile project management methodologies.
Agile methodology is a dynamic approach of the project management. The agile
methodology have the ability to take any phase of the project and it can work as per the
demand of the client. Many adjustments are made while developing a construction because
the clients have several changes required in the project plan. Only the agile methodology has
the capability to adapt and implement these changes. Agile methodology is very flexible and
changes can be made in the project anytime (Kerzner and Kerzner 2017). So in the
construction industry this project management methodology is used. It can manage the time
effectively and effective management of time is necessary for an effective and efficient
productivity in the project. It also make sure the progress of the project to get profit from the
market. Agile methodology use an iterative implementation process to manage the design and
built the activities of the construction engineering (Špundak, 2014). The businesses and the
industries are gained advantage because of this project management methodology. As a
construction manager sometimes I am get forced to team up with some new crew members

for cheaper brainstorm and to fulfill the demand of the customer as quick as possible. This
methodology helps me to add the client requirement in any phase of the project which is very
effective as no other such methodology is capable of providing these features. There are
many famous methodologies like waterfall, CPM, and lean construction management is used
for the construction engineering project (Sohi et al., 2016).
