The article “The waves of feminism and why people keep fighting over them, explained”
is an article that talks more about feminist and feminism, composed by Constance Grady on July
20, 2018. The article reveals the rift that is in the form of a struggle between the second-wave
feminists and the third-wave feminists. It also explains further the war between the second-
wavers and the fourth feminists in general. Generally, the article talks about the people who have
been advocating for feminism and they expressed their views through demonstrations as
compared to the current situation where many of such actions have been taken to social media
platforms such as Facebook and Twitter (Grady, 2018).
The author, in this case, addresses the current generation and seeks to find out whether
we are okay or satisfied with the first-wavers who he considers as racists as can be seen from his
submissions and questions paused to the reader. The article also compares the other movements
that fought for civil rights and the current movements that only create resistance against
individuals such as Tramp administration. The author explains how feminism is getting to the
extent of cultural importance that it has neither experienced nor enjoyed for the past many years.
Currently, feminism has become a major object of cultural discourse which has resulted in some
mystifying discussions since not everybody knows of it or in agreement with the fundamental
expressions of feminism.
Current Event
Feminism has transformed into modern feminism. The fight has changed, and we still
experience the same stereotypes like it was in the olden days and there are indications that the
cause will never get eliminated. Men and women have been seen on streets in protest against the
injustices done to women such as rape, for instance, in 2012; there was a protest in Toronto

against the rape incident. They used placards with different information written on them in
support for all the women worldwide. The protest indicates that as much as feminism has been a
topic of discussion for decades, it remains a matter of concern that needs to be addressed
amicably to save women and men from injustice within society. As clearly indicated in the
article, people started holding conversation regarding feminism from 1968 to date.
Currently, it is simple to dismiss the need and importance of feminism since the main
issues that were given consideration is thought to have been solved; however, discrimination
against women still exist in various parts across the world and different places such as homes,
offices, on social media platforms, and even in the transport sector. The article has totally
changed my perception about feminism and I have realized that it is just another form of
discrimination against women. Similarly, I have also learnt that feminism is not only about
women in the society but, it also involves men with the same idea and in solidarity in the fight
against injustices to men and women worldwide (Papageorgiou, 2018). In my opinion, we should
not look things and pass, both men and women must show mutual respect and appreciation for
one another.
