Historical event#1: Civil Rights Struggles
The United States of America experienced civil rights movements especially from the
mid-1950s to late 1960s (Spring, 2016). African Americans and entire American society, felt that
people should reunite and ignore racial differences that in all probability cause disunity. The civil
rights struggles until today have a long-range effect on me in the sense that it has inspired me to
fight for racial equality. Following these struggles, I have been fighting racial bias and
redirecting my energies at advocating for racial equality. Today, I reject all attempts to
undermine or discriminate against other people because of their race. I feel that people should
embrace diversity because humanity requires us to accept, appreciate and love each other. Hence,
due to civil rights struggles, I think I have a sense of responsibility to continue fighting for the
rights of the minorities who have been discriminated against because of their skin color.
Historical event #2: Great depression
The great depression has a “long-range” impact on the modern workplace in the sense
inspires people to be innovative. This was a serious economic downturn that made life miserable
and pushed many people into despondency (Cortes, & Weidenmier, 2018). Hence, this economic
depression reminds me to be innovative in my profession. Through this historical event, I am
obliged to work hard and ensure that problem-solving remains the nerve center of my profession.
I believe that innovative professionals are capable of growing the economy and can prevent
economic depression witnessed in the 1930s from recurring. Thus, great depression gives every
professional sense of responsibility to give solutions to economic problems to avoid a repeat of
this event.
