Re- analysis of the case study
Based on the review of the cases studies, it has been found that teacher is troubled by
disruptive (negative) behavior exhibited by the boy students in the classroom. Case study 1
from the middle school level of ‘First Analysis’ depicts the use of vulgar language by a group
of 12-year-old boys. The teacher has tried to correct them by encouraging the use of
‘appropriate’ language but it has not worked. This scenario is mixed for the bad language is
directed towards the recessive and shy students which makes it different from a situation
where the foul language is used inside a closed group. A student when asked why does he
uses foul language, tells that the ‘language’ makes them look ‘cool’ in front of each other.
This kind of behavior is chiefly induced by an uncontrolled usage of social media or exposure
to a vast array of digital media. The scenario has a negative impact just not on the boys who
are actively using the language but onto the shy girls too, towards whom the words are
directed. This sort of behavior, if not reinforced, might lead to a behavioral crisis in the
classroom. Nowadays, children are exposed to a lot of television and video games and ‘hero
worship’ is almost a trend in children where they blindly follow the behavior of a superhero
or their favorite icon without morally judging the ‘ethics’ of it. Sun and Shek (2012) has
argued that misbehavior of students delays classroom effectiveness and hinders learning
process. However, because ‘modelling’ is very important in social psychological
development of a child, the teacher should first act as a ‘role model’ with the required
domination over the undisciplined students. The second part of case study depicts a girl who
has behavioral problems bordering on self- abuse, attachment issues (Kinniburgh, et al.,
2017) and sexuality which might have resulted from idolizing similar ‘models’ television,
movies or magazines. Children often lack the deep ‘understanding’ of concrete and the
abstract concepts which develops stage by stage with cognitive maturity (Siegler, 2016). This
might be very hazardous to the children.

In response to the usage of vulgar language in classroom, I would like to
intervene by implementing verbal intervention to modify behaviour of students. Glock (2016)
has revealed verbal intervention to be effective in management of student misbehavior in the
classroom. I will try to avoid sarcasm and reprimanding the group initially. I would also like
to intervene with positive reinforcement strategies like creative essays, quizzes and other
classroom fun activities for development of stronger interpersonal relationships between the
students ( especially between a foul language user and his timid fellow student victim). I
would make sure, each of the student participates in these fun activities for they can receive
attractive prizes for winning or for just participating in these activities. Building of
interpersonal empathy is an important tool in affecting a positive classroom behavior.
In the second part, a seventh grade girl exhibits a behavioral problem due to
her inner conflicts and esteem needs. This is a very challenging situation for a teacher when
a student is showing such disruptive behavior of inviting someone for sexual or emotional
pleasure (Levin and Nolan 2014). There must be certain dire conflicts brewing inside her for
the lack of parental love or peer security. In response to the disruptive behavior displayed by
the girl, I will rather go a one on one counselling and talk to her parents as well. I would first
personally call her parents and ask them whether they are aware that their child is developing
such interest. Instead of reprimanding her, I would them display affections and care to their
daughter which she covets subconsciously the most. Another strategy is to counsel the girl
which should be a person centered counselling where I will hear more from her. I would
make her realize how special and important her esteem needs are and they need to be
addressed by the right persons like her peers, friends and relatives. She might be also prone to
self-harm, given the intricacies of the case and hence, a positive behavior reinforcement
through extra attention in class and home must be promoted as well. A strategy is also in

relevance with unconditional teaching process as individual student’s response or behavior
does not govern teacher’s action in this process (Hamilton, 2017).
