SCHOOL MANAGEMENT
Managing My Classroom and Create a Positive Environment for Learning and
Teaching
Addressing the needs of students is significant since students have both psychological
and physical needs for order and security, novelty and freedom, competence and personal
power, belonging and love, and fun. Therefore, when I address the student needs in a
classroom scenario the learners will be happy to be in the classroom, there will be less
occurrence of incidents of behavior while learning and engagement will improve. Creating a
sense of order is also critical to the creation of a positive environment for teaching and
learning since students like following a certain structure and want a teacher who knows his
content as well as the ability of efficiently managing his classroom. For example, students
should be taught on how to arrange their seats quietly and quickly for different purposes, get
the attention of the teacher with minimum class disturbance and enter the classroom then
quickly become engaged in an activity of learning. Greeting students at the door is important
since the teacher can explain to the students to maintain eye contact and give verbal
greetings. By doing this, students will be aware that I care about them as individuals which
would enhance learning and teaching in the classroom. Furthermore, I would ensure that
students get to know me better. I would want my students to perceive me as a three-
dimensional human being who is trustworthy. Teachers should also get to know their
students. For example, teachers can talk to students, know their cultures and attend
extracurricular activities. Moreover, I can celebrate success by offering rewards to recognize
the achievements of students.
