AI Summary
This discussion assignment analyzes climate change based on the UN Climate Change Annual Report and State of Climate Highlights. The student reconstructs arguments employing inductive generalizations and statistical syllogisms, demonstrating an understanding of these critical thinking tools and their application to climate change data. The assignment defines inductive generalization and statistical syllogism, providing examples from the reports. The student also discusses the impact of climate change, emphasizing the need for immediate action, such as planting trees and enacting laws to prevent deforestation. The student's personal response underscores the urgency of addressing global climate change and the importance of raising awareness for a healthier environment.

Step 1
UN Climate Change Annual Report
- UN climate change brings together nations to build a consensus on a response to
global climate changes.
- Agreements such as Paris have been formed to help in disaster management around
the globe.
- It is important to manage our forests to help reduce risks of adverse climatic changes
which can impact negatively on our environment.
2017 State of Climate Highlights
-climate changes occur in relation to components of the earth system.
-life is generally dependant on climatic changes occurring across the globe.
-the climate varies with duration and time through actions of human beings
- better understandings of climate changes improve over time through what we physically
observe.

Inductive generalization is the principle of generalizing information from f known
occurrences. Climate change is happening globally and nations need to come together to create a
conducive environment for purposes of adaptation and increase resilience
A statistical syllogism is the application of statistical generalization from inductive
opinions. This can be drawn from the fact that 17% of carbon dioxide emission resulting from
deforestation especially in developed countries. This sample is biased as it focuses only on
developed countries.
Personal response to global climate change
Global climate change is a great challenge and even though several bodies such as UN
Environment and Climate Change have been formed around the globe to deal with these
challenges immediate actions such planting trees should be taken to make our planet safe to
inhabit. Creating awareness of the need for a healthy environment for better health and more
prosperity is greatly invaluable (Chan et al, 2015). Deforestation and forest deprivation should
be done away with since it causes almost 17% of carbon dioxide emission in the atmosphere. To
overcome these, governments should enact laws to severely punish those found guilty of cutting
down trees aimlessly without replacing them (Luck et al, 2016).
On a scale of 1-5, with 5 five being extremely urgent, climate change needs to be extremely
taken into consideration. It is gradually changing with time and there is a risk to warming
causing either lots of floods, drought or storms.
