Introduction
Climatic condition in the high plain of Texas varies widely from arid areas in the
west and humid in the east. This had led to increase in the drought situations due to climatic
condition and low precipitation level in the high plain of Texas.
Temperature as climatic variable: From the statistical data it is believed that the average
temperature in a year of Texas high plain increase gradually with temperatures starting from
52oF in the northern region of Texas and in the lower region of Rio grand valley to about 68oF.
This climatic condition is very essential as helps in the determination of state’s weather situation
which is useful in detecting drought as well as availability of water. During summertime, it is
believed that extreme weather condition is dominant in the west region of Texas high plains. As
warm desert in the southern west of Texas high plains draws near, a moist air of the northern part
from California and Mexico Gulfs is able to produce summertime thunder-storms.
Precipitation as Climatic Variable: Most of the precipitation in the Texas high plains occurs in
form of rainfall. In the northern and western regions of Texas, little amounts of ice and snow are
formed. The annual average precipitation has decreased generally.
Conclusion
The research from science of climate shows that drought is likely to increase worldwide
as a result of high temperatures whereas precipitation trend is becoming shorter and shorter.
Most of the precipitation in the Texas high plains takes place in form of rainfall. The mean
temperature of Texas high plain increases gradually with temperatures starting from 52oF in the
northern region of Texas approximately 68oF
