1CLIMATE POLITICS
One of the major developments of the contemporary period of human history is that of
the change in the climate. The discourse on such changes in climate has assumed a significant
position in the educational field of today due to its impact in human health. However, it is
important to understand that the views of the citizens are not taken in the case of climate politics.
In this regard, the article written by Beck (2010), emphasizes on the importance of undertaking
the sociological implications of climate change before trying to take a political stance on the
issue of climate change. The article has focused on the development of the concept known as
‘environmental sociology’ so as to give the idea that the environment forms an indispensable part
of the sociological discourse of the human civilization.
The environment critically looks in to the issues of the environment as linked with
economics and sociology. Sociologically, the changes in climate has the potential to cause
adverse effect to the very survival of the human race. Economically, the article states that of
nothing is done to restrict the changes in climate, then the entire globe stands to lose around
twenty percent of its annual turnover in various sectors of human activity. The
comprehensiveness of the article is evident when the political changes in respect of higher forms
of social inequality is defined based on climate change. The article however, raises the question
of modernity which would be affected as a result of trying to control the process of
industrialization.
