Introduction
A portfolio is an umbrella of different artefacts that describe the professional background,
their work experience and finally their competencies. It assembles knowledge and evidence in an
orderly manner which justifies a different level of competency and then reflects back the
expectations, set standards and objectives that are needed in the course of career development
(Bennett, 2008). This the primary objective of developing an e-portfolio and it will act as a
guideline or model in describing the competencies that I have attained and the objectives that am
planning to achieve so as I attain my primary goal of an advanced clinical nurse educator.
Description
There are different standards or rather qualifications set by the Australian Nursing and
Midwifery Federation that a clinical nurse educator should attain. One is supposed to possess a
Bachelor of Nursing and a postgraduate study with 5-10 years of continuous clinical experience
after registration. So far, I have already attained the degree in nursing and pursuing the
postgraduate diploma.
Feelings and analysis
The primary objective of a nurse educator is to coordinate deliver and evaluate clinical
nurse education at the ward or the unit level. This is what am struggling to achieve. There are
key accountabilities that am also supposed to attain and they have been divided into four
domains that include professional development and education, professional practice, Quality
improvement and management and finally enabling others (Choi & Kim, 2016). Under the first
domain, I have been able to assist other nurses with orientation at the clinical area.

Evaluation
I have also been able to use evidence based learning in clinical education. What am
working on is the implementing and evaluation of clinical education programs and in services for
new nurses. I believe that by the end of the year, I will have achieved that. Under professional
practice, I have been able to review all the nursing practices at my workplace (Jefferies et al.,
2018). To enable others, I have acted as a role model and a learning resource for other nurses. I
have also been participating in quality improvement and organizational accreditation activities.
Conclusion
According to the Berners mode of reflection, I am supposed to think about my own areas
of experience and then rate it using the expertise scale of 1 to 5.Stage 1 is novice, stage is
Advanced Beginner and stage 3 is competent. Stage 4 is described as competent and finally stage
5 is described as an expert. At the moment, I can rate myself as being competent but in 6 years’
time, I will be an expert clinical nurse educator (Collins, Ross, Crawley, & Thompson, 2018).
The reason as to why I rate myself as being competent is due to the fact that I have not yet
completed my postgraduate diploma and am also devoid of the 5-10 years of work experience. It
is just a matter of time and I reach that expertise level .I conclusion, being a clinical nurse
educator has been my desire for quite some time. I have made substantial efforts to achieve my
objective. However, I am only short of my objective by 5 years which I believe I will be there in
a short while.
