Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment outlines two clinical learning objectives related to conducting urinalysis. The first objective focuses on understanding and implementing infection control protocols during urinalysis to protect patients and healthcare providers. The student plans to achieve this by documenting infection risk factors and adhering to nursing standards. The second objective is to identify and understand abnormal findings from urinalysis tests to aid in patient diagnosis and care planning. The student aims to achieve this by researching normal values and implications of different findings, aligning with nursing standards for comprehensive assessment. The student will measure their success by documenting and interpreting test results and providing effective care plans, providing evidence of achieving these objectives within a three-month timeframe. References supporting the objectives are also provided.

CLINICAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES 2
Conducting a Urinalysis
The two learning objectives in my placement relate to the topic of conducting a urinalysis. The
first learning objective is to understand the significance of observing the necessary protocols of
infection control during a urinalysis test.
I understand that I need to observe hand hygiene by decontaminating my hands and wearing
gloves every time I want to handle a patient. Infection control is important in protecting patients,
their families, and healthcare practitioners against infectious diseases during care delivery (Al
Yousef, 2014).
I will achieve this goal by documenting the risk factors of infection during the performance of a
simple urinalysis. This will help me in identifying the primary causes of infections during
urinalysis and knowing how to prevent them.
This learning objective is accurate and realistic because it follows the standards of professional
nursing practice. Standard 6 requires a nurse to provide safe, appropriate, and responsive quality
care (NMBA, 2020).
By the end of 3 months, I need to know how to conduct safe urinalysis by following the
guidelines for infection control. The only way of proving that I have the above-mentioned
learning objective is by conducting safe urinalysis tests. Under the guidance of my supervisor, I
will provide care to my patients. My supervisor will assess my practice and if he is satisfied with
my actions, then I will have known that I have successfully achieved my first learning objective.
Another proof of success is when patients are satisfied with my level of care delivery and do not
report any symptoms as a result of the urinalysis tests.

CLINICAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES 3
The second learning objective is to identify and understand any abnormal findings from a
urinalysis test. This will help me in diagnosing patients with conditions of the urinary system.
Additionally, understanding these abnormal findings will help me in designing appropriate
nursing care plans for my patients. According to Coad, Friedman & Geoffrion (2012), urinalysis
can help in identify diseases like diabetes, UTI, and chronic kidney disease.
I will measure the success of the learning objective by documenting all my laboratory findings
every time I conduct a test and comparing them against normal values. This comparison will help
me in interpreting the meanings of the test findings to aid in a comprehensive diagnosis.
I will learn how to achieve this learning objective by researching on what can be considered as
normal values in a urinalysis test. Additionally, I will research on the implications of each of the
findings to understand what a particular finding could mean to the health of my patient.
This learning objective is relevant to my scope of practice because it follows the nursing
standards of practice. Standard 4 requires a nurse to comprehensively conduct nursing
assessments and collect all data relevant to care delivery (NMBA, 2020).
By the end of 3 months, I should have achieved my second learning objective. I should,
therefore, be able to interpret urinalysis findings to properly diagnose a patient and design an
effective care plan. One evidence to prove that I have achieved my second learning objective is
when I successfully and accurately diagnose a patient and provide an effective care plan.
It is important to achieve the above-mentioned clinical skills because they will inform my
nursing practice and help me in quality delivery of care in my future practice.
