Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment addresses key challenges in big data and cloud computing. It focuses on the importance of security measures, including protection against cyber-attacks and DoS attacks, and the careful management of data storage. The assignment also explores the essential characteristics of cloud computing as defined by NIST, such as on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured service. References are provided to support the analysis of these critical aspects of cloud computing and its practical implications.

BIG DATA CHALLENGES 2
Question One
Where to be careful when using cloud services?
Answer
Cloud services are cost effective and quality according to modern technology of internet,
however, it should be carefully handled by individuals and companies. The following are
identified areas to considered more careful (Cayirci, and De Oliveira, 2018).
Information Placement and Servers. Data storage for cloud computing services are
placed at a centred location from multiple locations/customer via server technology.
Therefore, the customer should be careful on the data inserting or retrieving.
Security issues – Cyber-attack and crimes are popular within cloud computing
system.
DoS Attacks – One should be careful while the server is unavailable for a while,
since this could lead to time wastage and loss of data.
Advanced Persistent Threats - Clients should be able to notice any persistent threat
in the server and take precautions.
Question Two
What are those cloud essential characteristics in “The U.S. NIST Definition of Cloud
Computing”?
Answer
The U.S NIST have defined the following five essentials of cloud computing characteristic as
necessary (Simmon, 2018).

BIG DATA CHALLENGES 3
On-demand self-service – According to the cloud computing, consumer is able to
request and receive services without support to fulfil manually the request. However,
this makes computing resources easily and quickly accessed.
Broad network access – Resources which are privately owned within cloud network
and are operated withing company’s firewall, are easily accessed through wide range
of device network.
Resource pooling – All computing resources are grouped together IT techniques, for
example through use of servers.
Rapid elasticity – Cloud computing provides scalable services to the final customers.
Measured service – All services are closely monitored and controlled to provide
effective planning and use of resources.
