DESCRIBING THE PLANNING AS WELL AS MIGRATION PROCESS IN DIFFERENT
BUSINESS SCENARIO
Introduction
The study is based on describing the planning as well as migration process in different
business scenario. The paper is based on analyzing the challenges into migration of the legacy
software system s into the cloud. Mele, Pels and Polese (2010) stated that migration to the cloud
computing is strategic organizational decisions which can provide an influence on the business
performance, growth, increase in its competitive advantage as well as business productivity. In
this paper, decision process model is proposed for supporting, planning and migrating to the
cloud computing (Rana & Rahman, 2018). The purposes of this study are that the companies can
decide for migrating the IT resources to the cloud because of organizational in addition to
technical benefits.
Background of the Problem
The gap. In this present study, there is limited mentioning of various migration
processes in different business scenario. The concerns regards to the cloud migration techniques
and models for the legal applications are considered in this paper. The research study is explored
of issues which are associated with legacy applications based on the migration on the cloud
(Katare, Padihar, & Qureshi, 2018). Some of the problems related to legacy systems are
proposed in this paper, while there is literature gap regarding in-depth analysis of the challenges
and problems which are raised into the cloud migration techniques.
Theoretical Foundations/Conceptual Framework and Review of the Literature/Themes
Theoretical foundations/conceptual framework. Based on Simon’s decision
process model, decision process model for migration to the cloud is being planned. This process
is based on identification as well as examination of areas which might power on decisions to
migrate. The decision process model is centred on activities needed throughout intelligence as

well as design phases which are neglected by its existing decision support system. The
knowledge based is considered as integrated part in this decision process model which stored
gathered information for assisting the phase of migration processes (Gholami et al., 2017). The
model is included with wider analysis as compared to assessment of the technical features such
as legal issues as well as contact of the organizational culture.
Review of the literature/themes. The list of major themes synthesized from the
literature related to the research topic and problem statements are:
i. Legacy, modernization reengining approach: In this study, the authors are
expressing various advances for modernizing the legacy system as it is an old
system used in the business (Rana & Rahman, 2018). One of the best methods to
resolve problems in the legacy system is cloud migration technique.
ii. Migration framework: There are migration frameworks which are used as
existing framework used for the migration of software, identification of problems
in migration and provided with solutions (Drews & Lantow, 2018).
iii. Modernization strategies and quality assurance: The authors highlighted in this
paper are that quality assurance is the main element in cloud migration which can
influence choice of the migration strategies (Katare, Padihar, & Qureshi, 2018).
iv. Systematic literature review on reengineering of web-based components: The
literature study is based on problems into the legacy system which is overcome
by cloud migration. The study is based on transformation of legacy software in
web service based which is being written in past 10 years journal articles.

Problem Statement
In this research study, there is a problem regarding cloud storage infrastructure. Few of
the researchers proposed the technique of loud migration where there is one solution is to safe
storage as the service clouds and shift from particular cloud provider to various cloud providers.
The cloud migration technique can solve the security problems which are related to data storage
and data availability (Drews & Lantow, 2018). There is required to develop cloud migration
framework to address drawbacks of existing legacy system in the business organization.
Research Questions
I. What are the challenges in software migration frameworks?
II. How do decision process model is used to support migration to the cloud?
Advancing Scientific Knowledge and Significance of the Study
In this paper, there are various migration techniques as well as frameworks which are
detailed. The characteristics of the software migration processes as well as association of chosen
studies are done by accenting the accessible gaps into the research study are main concern for
this particular study (Khalifa, 2018). The significance of this research study is that it can
elaborate existing research knowledge related to software migration. There is using of various
ways to migrate the software and cloud.
Rationale for Methodology
Based on selected research topic, qualitative method is used which provides descriptive
analysis of the preparation in addition to migration procedure in diverse business scenarios. The
selected method is based on exploring how the subject matter expert describes planning as well
as migration processes in various industry scenarios in US tri-state area Washington DC,
Maryland, and Virginia (DMV). The subject matter experts of different organizations in selected

area are taken into considerations. 20 subject matter experts are selected for performing the
interview those have skills and knowledge regarding cloud migration. 40 of the subject matter
experts are selected for performing the survey questionnaires.
Nature of the Research Design for the Study
The research design is helped the researcher to explain framework of selected topic
which help to better select the data collection as well as analysis methods. Through data
collection process, a specific research approach is applied t better describe the research design.
Descriptive research design is chosen for this particular study which aims to gain details as state
of occurrence of the events in detailed form as well as accurate description of this research topic.
The research design is able to define the migration techniques which are used in different
business scenario (Alkhalil, Sahandi, & John, 2016). The data collection method employed for
this revise is primary and the data collection instruments are through survey using questionnaire
and interview methods.
Research Materials, Instrumentation, and Sources of Data
Qualitative sources of data. The sources of qualitative data are survey
questionnaires and interview. Based on the research questions, search terms are identified to get
related research papers based on the research topic. The search strings are software migration,
legacy modernization, decision process model, challenges and software migration maintenance.
The inclusion criteria are used to search peer review articles of various search terms. The studies
are being described into the hypothetical concepts in framework of the software migration. The
research studies are detailed in software migration based on information technology context and
part of the migration issues (Drews & Lantow, 2017). The qualitative data sources are relevant
to the research study as it can fulfill with research needs as well as define range of research. It

will direct for the research superiority along with relevant data is being increased along with
happening for the quality of research study.
Data Collection
The data is measured as helpful for collecting information related to selected research
topic and facts which are helpful. The data collection method is helpful to derive proper research
related results to research processes and also enable format of this work. In this study, primary
data collection method is supportive to assemble raw data which are provided as per
requirements of selected topic (Shoaib et al., 2017). This data collection method needs
explanation of reliability as well as validity.
The primary sources are collected through interaction sessions with the subject matter
experts those helped to gain information related to cloud migration to overcome with the legacy
system issues. The data collection process is performed through questionnaire and interview. In
order to collect the data through survey, the subject matter experts is considered such that the
researcher can understand planning as well as migration process in different business scenario
(Jamshidi, Pahl, & Mendonça, 2017). The numbers of respondents involved for survey are 40.
The interview is involved 20 subject matter experts those are proper sample as they are providing
with detailed procedures for the cloud migration techniques. In this research study, the subject
matter experts are considered as target population U.S tri-state area Washington DC, Maryland,
and Virginia (DMV). The target population is based on their skills and knowledge related to
cloud migration.
Data Analysis Procedures
In this study, qualitative data is obliging to proof narrative form of collected data which
can include accurate details of selected investigation topic. This data is helpful to ad theoretical

concepts into the practical field which can lead to in-details understanding of how the subject
matter expert is planning and migration different business scenarios. Through this data analysis
method, there is also better analysis of cloud migration techniques used in the businesses. The
data which are collected through questionnaire are analyzed using pie charts and graphs using
excel spreadsheet (Bakewell, 2011). The data which are collected through interview are analyzed
based on their individual responses.
Ethical Considerations
The researcher is necessary to track code of conduct which will help to recognize wrong
as well as right set of the behaviors desirable to accept throughout the explore process. The data
is being gained through the research study as it helps to understand present trends of the cloud
migration techniques into the legacy systems. The commercial data application is circumvent in
this case such that collected raw data is only used for academic purposes only. There is no
mental as well as physical harassment of the respondents such that identities of the participants
are concealed based on the requests of the research participants.
