EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATION
Title: Cloud Migration in Cloud Computing
1. Project Background
Cloud Migration is a process of movement of data and application from the onset
computers of an organization to cloud. Migration in cloud often involves the movement of data
along with other business elements between the different cloud environments (Pahl, Xiong &
Walshe, 2013). There are a number of benefits of making use of cloud computing in business.
Therefore, the migration to the cloud environment is often considered to be a necessary need for
the organizations. The project proposal will discuss the implementation of cloud migration
project. Prior to the implementation of the project an extensive research study will be performed
that will ensure successful implementation of the project.
2. Rationale of the study
2.1. Problem Domain
The constant evolution of technology has given rise to digital revolution. In order to gain
a competitive advantage in this highly competitive environment, it is essential to migrate to
cloud environment. In traditional methods, the back up and disaster recovery of the data is quite
complex which can be eliminated with the help of cloud computing. Cloud computing further
ensures built in status monitoring system that helps in easier business management. Therefore it
can be observed that without the adoption of cloud computing, management of complex business
processes can be a major problem in this world of technology.
2.2. Purpose and Justification

EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATION
The purpose of this project plan is to propose a migration project to cloud. The project
aims in designing and implementation of a project that is associated with the migration of a
business in cloud platform (Andrikopoulos, Strauch & Leymann, 2013). There are a number of
advantages of making use of cloud computing in business processes and therefore the migration
in cloud project is proposed. Migration to cloud is easy as it has faster deployment times. Apart
from that, it supports enhanced security features that ensure secure data storage and data access.
Migration to cloud will provide flexibility in management of different business processes.
Presence of an appropriate disaster recovery technique helps in secure data storage and therefore
the proposed project is justified. With the migration of the infrastructure and the different
business processes to cloud, it is possible to manage the business in a more effective manner and
therefore this project is justified.
3. Sponsor or Supervisor Recommendation
It is recommended to provide a planned approach of project implementation for
successful migration in cloud environment. Cloud migration can be described as a process of
moving data, applications and other business elements from the onsite computer of an
organization to cloud environment. Before migration, it is recommended for an organization to
perform a SWOT analysis of the migration project as it will unveil the strength, weakness,
opportunities and threats of the project (Smith, 2015). Apart from that it is necessary to select a
right cloud partner and an appropriate cloud environment as well. The migration plan is to be
developed in advance according to the requirement which will be followed throughout the
implementation of the project.

EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATION
In order to understand the issues and risks associated with the migration of the project to
cloud, it is essential to perform a secondary research to understand the issues and the benefits
associated with process of migration to cloud environment (Jamshidi, Ahmad & Pahl, 2013). The
extensive literature search will help in unveiling the issues faced by the organization in
implementation of the project. The research has
4. Research Questions
The questions the research will address are represented below-
1. What is the need for migration in cloud?
2. What are the benefits of cloud migration?
3. What are the issues associated with Cloud Migration?
4. What are the recommendations for ensuring secure Cloud Migration?
5. Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework for the cloud migration project is represented in the following

6. Methodology
This section of the project proposal will provide an idea of the different process and
techniques that will be followed for successful completion of research project. Research
methodology provides the details of processes, tools and techniques associated with information
gathering and successful implementation of the project (Bryman & Bell, 2015). The research and
the system development methods, data collection methods, ethical issues and the compliance
requirements along with data analysis process are discussed in the following sections.

EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATION
Both secondary research and primary research method will be followed for the migration
in cloud project. The secondary research method is a common research method involving the use
of information that has been already gathered. There are a number of advantages of making use
of secondary research methodology. First of all, the information that is fetched is readily
available and is of low cost. The secondary research methods help in guiding the focus of the
primary research which might be conducted in the project if required (Ahmad et al., 2015).
However, there are certain limitations of making use of secondary research method as well. One
of the major disadvantages of secondary research is that it lacks the specificity that can be
achieved through primary research. The primary research method will help in eliminating this
limitation. A mixed method of research is proposed for this project since the project aims at
migration of a business to cloud. The benefits, issues and the risks associated with the same can
be easily identified through primary and secondary research.
6.2. Data Collection Methods
Since both secondary research and primary will mainly be performed in this project, the
data will be collected from extensive literature search, annual report of the companies and
previously published research journals and will also be collected from an online survey
(Brannen, 2017). A sample size of 25 is chosen for the research. The collected data will undergo
both qualitative and quantitative analysis in order to analyze the benefits and issues associated
with migration in cloud platform.
6.3. Ethical Issues
There are a number of ethical issues that are associated with collection of data which
should be considered in this research project. Maintaining the privacy of the information

8
EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATION
collected is necessary and it emerges to be a significant ethical issue. Obtaining the permission of
the participants is necessary as well or else it would give rise to ethical issue (Walliman, 2017).
Therefore, obtaining the permission of the individuals for participating in the survey is
necessary. If transparency cannot be maintained with the collected data, major ethical issue
might arise with data collection.
6.4. Compliance Requirements
The compliance requirements in this research study are as follows-
1. Respect and safety of research participants is one major compliance requirement of the
research study.
2. Apart from safety, maintaining the privacy and the transparency of the information
shared by the research participants is necessary as well.
6.5. Data Analysis
The data that will be collected by the primary and secondary research methods will
undergo both qualitative and quantitative analysis (Silverman, 2016). The secondary data
collected will undergo a qualitative while the data collected from survey will undergo a
quantitative research methodology.
7. Project Plan
This section of the research proposal will provide an idea of the proposed Migration in
Cloud project. The deliverables, work breakdown structure and the risks associated with the
research are discussed in the following section.
