Discussion Board Post
AI Summary
This discussion post explores the differences between cloud computing and virtualization. It defines cloud computing as a practice used by businesses to store data with reliability, scalability, flexibility, and security, leveraging remote network servers. It contrasts this with virtualization, which creates virtual servers, storage, and operating systems using software to run multiple systems simultaneously. The post highlights the architectures of cloud computing (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) and the areas of virtualization (network, storage, server, data, desktop, and application). It provides a case study of IBM's adoption of virtualization to reduce operational costs and address challenges like scalability and cost savings. The post references relevant sources to support the discussion.

Discuss the difference between virtualization and cloud computing
The difference between cloud computing and virtualization are as follows:
Cloud computing technology: Cloud computing technology is referred to as a practice
that is used by different business organizations these days to store large set of information with
reliability, scalability, flexibility and security. Remote network server host networks are used on
internet to implement the prcatices successfully in the business organizations. The challenges of
data processing, managing and storing also becomes easier with the implementation of cloud
computing technology. Cloud computing is a template based process and it is mainly used for
automated virtual resources mostly on damage usage (Marinescu 2017). The private clouds and
public cloud are respectively high CAPEX, low APEX, low CAPPEX, high OPEX. Three
different architecture of cloud computing are SaaS, PaaS and IaaS. Based on the business and
operation the most suitable cloud architecture should be selected by the company owners. Cloud
computing reduces the issues of excessive data loss, cyber security and operational risks
(Rittinghouse and Ransome 2016). It gives flexibility in capacity and improves the functional
capabilities. The system collaboration gets enhanced and also the service is available for 24X7
time period.
Virtualization: virtualization is a method of creating virtual server, storage device
network design and virtual operating system. Virtualization is mainly use of a software that
allows either piece of hardware or software to successfully run multiple numbers of operating
systems at the same time (Morabito 2015). There are six different areas where the process of
virtualization can be successfully implemented such as network virtualization, storage
virtualization, server, data, desktop and application virtualization. The process of virtualization

combines all available resources within a network through splitting the present bandwidths into
channels. Each of the channels is independent from each other and it can be assigned to any
particular server in real time.
Example: IMB is a Multinational company that uses virtualization technology for
operating their company operation and services. In order to reduce the operational cost and
functional complexities the company has recently adopt Virtualization technology in their
company (Wright 2017). In order to run multiple numbers of applications simultaneously the
company has started using this concept. In order to run different operating system once at a time
IBK company uses the virtualization technology.
While operating different types of operational and functional activities the IBM Company
was facing major challenges and issues as well. In order to resolve these activities company is
required to adopt proper virtualization. The specific issues that IBM Company was facing for
what the company has to take the virtualization technology are as follows:
Late time of speedy time recovery
Lack of scalabilities
Inadequate Return on Investment (ROI)
Lack of cost and space saving opportunities
It has been determined, that implementation of virtualization technology helped IBM to
improve their functional and operational efficiency and also the application challenges get
resolved with this technology. All the detail application of the company can run virtually that
will improve the security as well.
