Report- Reflection
The strengths that I have acquired based on active listening, open questions and reflection was
the ability show empathy and listen in relation to a non-judgemental perspective. In addition, I
also developed my empathic communication skills by comprehending the feelings of my friend
with active listening, (Yule, 2013). I gained confidence through appreciative inquiry that assisted
me to acknowledge my virtues and strengths as well. Based on challenges, the orders of the list
of the question was critical in appreciative inquiry for me. Furthermore keeping the conversation
neutral while expressing empathy to my friend, it was also a critical challenge, (Argyle, 2013). I
also faced challenges during open-ended questions as there are times when I run out of ideas as
well as over thinking the conversation was also a significant difficulty. The new perspectives that
I have analyzed are to improve my listening skills, reduce over thinking a particular statement,
enhance the empathetic skill, as well as non-judgemental perspective, has contributed towards
my learning and skill development. The main obstacle that I have analyzed to change is to
communicate with people in the crowd as well as react to situations based on empathy. The
positive learning outcomes that I have attained from the coaching communication experiences
are improved listening skills, expressing empathy to others, attaining non-judgemental
perspective and effective communication with others. The impact of this learning for me is

required, developing such a skill would enhance my coaching skills. One habit that has
negatively impacted my coaching ability is to not provide or make immediate response while
someone else is expressing their feelings or sadness. This, in turn, can critically disrupt the
coaching skills, (Bereiter and Scardamalia, 2013).
Habits that I wish to unlearn that interferes my coaching approach is closed ended question
habits and directive approach as I do not express my feeling based on other feelings. As during
the discussion weeks, I have observed that the ability for open ended question was complex for
me. Hence, I would like to eliminate closed ended question habits for effective communication,
(Hackman and Johnson, 2013). I am trying to increase my awareness and practice of empathetic
skills and open ended questions habits for coaching communication skill development. In
addition, mindful listening would also highly assist me to make a significant strategy to
acknowledge virtues, (Brown et al. 2013).
Based on personal coaching Action plan, one coaching skill that I would like to develop is to
express empathy. Expressing empathy based on the provided situation has been a critical task for
me as I lack the ability to deliver immediate response. In addition, I have observed that my
inability to face open opened questions at ease is also critical that would be significantly
developed through empathy, (James-Ward, 2013). My vision is to actively listen to the
perception of others based on which I can show immediate response and empathy for comforting
the situation.
