INTRODUCTION
This report is an exercise and an attempt in the direction of different aspects related to
personal development of an individual. Personal development is that exercise or practice through
which a person intend to maximize its skills and capabilities for gaining desirable levels of
strengths and capabilities in relevance to their benchmark of success. In personal development
focus of an individual is not just limited career and wealth only, but also one strives on securing
good goals of personal life as well, such as good health, peace of mind etc. In this report along
with discussing strategies of personal development, different type of coaching models that are
supportive in making personal development of an individual are also evaluated.
COACHING MODEL CRITIQUE
Coaching models are considered as very powerful tools in providing useful knowledge
and insight to people for making progress in various different fields of life. The coaching
models, in this context, are more meant for the individual own development in personal life,
through which they are also able to give meaning to other spheres of life as well. In this section
of report, various coaching models, those are developed by different philosophers and writers
have been evaluated. Here, the information that they want to convey is evaluated along with
finding up flaws in them.
GROW model by Sir John Whitmore (1980)
This model was developed in a manner through which the author argues that, for personal
development an individual must focus over four areas of establishing the Goals, Examining
reality of those goals (as to whether or not they are achievable), identifying options of reaching
up there and at last figuring out what the can actually do to achieve those goals (12 Effective
Coaching Models, 2020).
The biggest limitation of this model can be seen through over emphasis of this model of
pragmatism and reality. It has been argued by the critics that most difficult challenges of life are
minimized to negligible levels, through willpower of individual. They believe that, willower is
the biggest driving force for an individual.

Instructional Coaching Models
In the Instructional Coaching models, there have been works and studies of various writers and
laureates. These writers through this model intend to focus on interventions of teachers like
figures in making personal development of people. But, these models ignore the fact that, in
personal development strength, capabilities and opinions are useful at the individual levels. The
complete development of a person is possible only when motivation to change and working hard
is coming from within. Therefore, interventions of teachers are not that much required. But
guidance can be very helpful.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES
Personal development and the methods that we choose to make our development on our
own have a very critical importance in our life. I have realized that many of the time I may be
aspired and be motivated myself for developing crucial and necessitated skills on personal and
professional levels as well, I may think of working on them as well (Tattum and Tattum, 2017).
But, when strategies and approaches to work on developing and skills are not right, desired
results cannot be possibly derived. Just marking some important skills, which may be required by
your work life, or values of modern times, but success is not possible unless process of
developing skills is not well though off and planned. Planning is must. It is not like that an
individual cannot make a particular type of skill or capabilities, is just the approach and planning
that shall be supportive of your ideas and intentions, along with the jewel idea of bringing up
personal development. It has been rightly mentioned by many motivational speakers and
laureates, that no challenge is bigger than Man’s potential. Therefore, if it is determined by one
to make progress and improvements, with right approach, success shall be quickly and gently
rendered (Carbonie, Guo and Cahalane, 2018).
Self evaluation- Considering the useful approach and methodologies that can be adopted by any
individual, I personally believe that one should always start of being biggest critic of oneself.
There has to be insecurities and apprehensions in an individual, related to oneself, that will be
working as impulse and pave the path along. Therefore, the first mark of right strategies towards
personal development is self evaluation. A person must take steps towards knowing that where is
he standing right now, is the current positioning of himself are compatible with the target that he

personal development. As it was discussed earlier in this report that one individual is required to

clarity of vision allow one to work in a particular direction, which is going to give him the
meaning of life (Osgerby, Marriott and Gee, 2018). There will be clarity within that individual as
what is meant to him and for what he is meant. This clarity will further open up the door of
intelligentsia for one, allowing identifying, deciding and setting up goals and objectives that
he/she is willing to achieve. As clarity of thoughts and vision about success will help individual
in working in a particular direction, that is criteria for his/her success. By setting up goals, one
will be striving to achieve that success in a targeted manner. therefore, goals are like small steps
in a ladder, that one shall be taking one by one, in order to reach that particular target. In this
section of report, I also emphasized over writing down these goals, so that one can get frequently
reminded of them. There comes time, when one feels burdened and exhausted by continuously
working towards securing achievements and success, and this is completely natural. But, as the

Start small- I have realized that, in my observations of other people and in my personal
experiences as well, that at the start of working towards personal development one is always
highly motivated and over enthusiastic. As a result, that individual thinks that everything can be
done by him at sudden points and he is capable of securing final results quickly. Hence, that
individual start taking bigger steps and start making bigger decisions, which are far away from
reality and thus brings some negative results for that individual. these negative results can be in
the form where one can get easily tired of making progress, or decides such patterns of making
progress that are forming a really difficult roads ahead for that individual. Therefore, the path to
success can become really tough for that individual where he seems getting tired and things may
become monotonous from him. Therefore, necessary planning is important in right manner. In
this planning, I believe that one can start from smaller things, and by prioritizing basic things at
first and foremost can prepare the road of Personal development for longer run. There are two
main advantage of this. Firstly, individual will get adaptable to changes schedules and new
developments in life. His or her mindset will become progressive and optimistic totally natural
and obvious for him (Schijven and et.al., 2021). Therefore, the challenge of adaptability will no
longer be the obstacle for that individual. Also, the individual can make necessary evaluation that
whether or not he or she is ready for that change in life, for which one is getting so desperate.
Second most important things is, when the individual will be seeing that things are going as per
planning and also he is securing desired success in his decisions and steps, the morale of
individual will go up and confidence will be boosted. I believe that setting smaller goals is not
meant to discourage individual from making progress. It is not like the individual is narrowing
down his criteria of success, but it something like a process, a process that completes and fulfill
journey of success along with boosting up confidence of person.

embracing everything, even setbacks and failures in a positive manner. In this mindset, the
acceptance level of an individual, towards failures and setbacks in really high, and he or she is
not ready to agree that they have failed. Rather they opine that, even a particular defeat or
setback has rendered them positive result and they agree that they have learnt something from
those setbacks. This is the attitude and mindset of a winner. They do not feel losing at any point
of time. Also, many novelist and scholars opines that, successful people also have a high belief
system. These people believe that with right approach, right attitude, patience and right timing,
experiences as well, that at the start of working towards personal development one is always

belief, winner’s attitude and mindset can be developed in an individual, as one tend to grow in
right direction and in right path (Fletcher, 2019). As, any individual aspires to work of making
progress towards personal developments, many new and positive things can be seen coming in
the path naturally, and this type of attitude will be automatically developed. This is because of
the confidence bough by the feeling of Self-righteousness. As an individual feels that there is
nothing going wrong in one’s life and matters or affairs are right in his control, than confidence
is seemed boosting up high, and also confidence is boosted up because of rise in level of
capabilities.
CONCLUSION
From the above discussion it can be concluded that, personal development holds a very
critical importance in life of an individual. in the dynamic world people are required to set aside
other things and prioritize them. They are required to put such agendas on top that focuses on their
individual goals and work towards improving their quality of life. This is the only way of making
