Report
AI Summary
This report focuses on learning and development within a coaching context. It begins by defining coaching and emphasizing the importance of critical self-reflection for coaches. The report then explores a self-assessment tool to evaluate coaching skills, identifying strengths and weaknesses in areas such as observation, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and time management. Two key areas for improvement are highlighted: communication skills (particularly written communication) and problem-solving abilities. To address these weaknesses, the report proposes personal development strategies based on the GROW coaching model (Goals, Reality, Options, Way Forward). This includes setting SMART goals for improved communication and problem-solving, analyzing the current situation, exploring various options for skill enhancement (such as seminars and workshops), and establishing a plan for monitoring progress and seeking feedback. The report concludes by emphasizing the significance of continuous learning and development for coaches, supported by relevant references.

Definition of coaching
Coaching is a process that aims to improve performance and focuses on the “here and now” rather
than on the distant past or future.
Coaching is unlocking a person`s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them
to learn, better than teaching them.
Coaching is defined as training or development that helps a learner to achieve a goal. The role of
the coach will be from instructor, friend, mentor, demonstrator, adviser, supporter, motivator, planner
and the Fountain of all Knowledge.

As a coach, it is highly essential that the potential which
a person holds is appropriately and critically reflected
which provides a clear insight of the skills they
possessed, the areas which are their core strengths, as
well as the areas which are yet to be improvised by these
individuals. Furthermore, this also allows them to self
assess their professional growth requirements which are
crucial for a sustainable development.

Coaching Skill Self Assessment Tool
It is a framework designed to reflect upon current skill and competencies of a coach, along with
determination of several areas of improvement. One of the most effective aspect of this tool is that it
helps an individual in critically reflect upon all their skills which is associated with the scores which
they have given themselves, as well as the ones which others such as peers, colleagues and seniors
have provided them.
Therefore, my self assessment tool and critical reflection is explored below:

Observation Skills
Currently, this is being used within the firm
with almost each of the subordinates in a
variety of manner where different methods are
being used by me to observe the human
resources performing, such as prompts,
observation from distance, feedbacks from
others, etc.
7 8
I’m pretty much confident in the
area due to the fact that I apply
diverse methods to observe the
performance levels and other
relatable employment elements
within the workplace
Communication Skills (Verbal,
Written, Speaking, Listening)
I happen to use this skill on more verbal and
speaking end, because I have to mentor and
motivate individuals to achieve better
outcomes.
7 4
However I am confident towards my
mentoring and motivational
communication, I am not effectively
confident about my written
communication.

Decision Making (Impartial
Judgements)
This ability is applied whenever a conflicting
situation arise that requires my opinion. I
happen to take decisions in a very impartial
manner; however, I struggle in taking
decisions that are in favour of the company as
well as employees.
6 7
I am quite confident that with more
time dedicated to this skill, along
with additional training, I would be
apt in dealing with these conflicting
situations easily.
Problem Solving
This skill has to be used almost daily with
multiple individuals have various different
problems to be dealt with. Mostly, I apply this
skill whenever an employee has low
confidence or a complex target is needed to be
accomplished.
9 6
I am not much confident in the area
due to the fact that it requires a high
diversity in approaches which I find
very complex in developing.

Time Management Skills
This is yet another skill which I use daily for
accomplishing targets. Firstly I plan the work
and set up a daily schedule through prioritise
the tasks. According to those tasks I provide
responsibilities to people which I feel could
get the work done as per the desired
requirement.
9 10
I am very much confident in this
skill of mine as i never failed to
meet a deadline, which allows me to
be confident about my approach.

The above discussion clearly showcased various skills which I apply as a coach within the workplace
and a critical reflection on how I use the same along with the confidence I have upon my coaching
competencies. However, there are two areas of improvement which were identified above and the
same has been discussed below:
Communication Skills
One of my weakest skills is communication. This is because while I am effective in speaking and
mentoring individuals verbally, I fail to set up appropriate performance appraisal criteria in written
format which is an imperative duty of a coach.

Problem Solving
Another area of improvement within my competencies as a coach is related to problem solving. The
reason for the same is because I go by the book when it comes to solving a particular problem which
makes my approach quite limited in regards with what is actually required. In addition to this, I tend to
panic when a complex problem arises, which makes me highly ineffective to have a clear mindset so
that I could further develop an effective approach.

According to the above analysis, it is necessary that the weaker skills are required to be improvised in
order to ensure that proper development in my skills and competencies as a coach is being achieved.
Therefore, it is necessary that several personal development strategies are appropriately created which
helps me in achieving these competence effectively. For this purpose, below is a coaching method that
is explored in regards with these skills.
