INTRODUCTION
Cognitive Psychology can be defined as the study of mental processes of individuals such
as language use, attention, creativity, learning and problem solving. This branch of psychology
has quickly grown in the recent years and has become one of the most popular sub fields of the
same. This sub-field of psychology is based on two assumptions, i.e., individual components of
various mental processes can be identified and then understood. The other assumption is that
internal mental processes can be defined in terms of algorithms or rules. It is very useful and is
applicable to various fields in psychology. With the help of cognitive psychology, the
researchers are able to learn more about how do people think and process information. This helps
in gaining a deeper understanding of the way in which human brain works. As a result,
psychologists are able to develop solutions to help people in dealing with different psychological
difficulties. There are various researches that have been conducted in order to understand how
people store as well as recall memories. As a result, the psychologists are able to help people in
improving their memories and deal with any memory problems effectively. Cognitive
psychology is an important branch of psychology because it helps in developing solutions for
people who are dealing with memory problems or any other psychological difficulties. Many
cognitive psychologists work in universities and government agencies, but they also work in
mental health clinics, hospitals or practice privately. Those who work in this area are often
focused on a particular area of interest, for example memory.
There can be different reasons why a person might have to see a cognitive psychologist,
such as in case of memory loss, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, brain trauma treatment,
sensory or perceptual issues or a language disorder. Cognitive psychologists play an important
role in the same and help such people who are dealing with learning problems or other mental
