How I used my listening and verbal communication skills.
During class time, I used my listening skills to write down important points during lectures so as
to remember them. In addition to that, my verbal communication skills were used during
presentation of group work.
How my reading skills were used to effectively develop an academic document.
I realized that when one decides to read for purposes related to academy, different strategies are
applied and they are different from those needed when reading as a hobby. For me to develop an
academic document I had to know the style needed for writing the academic document as well as
learning vocabularies that were new. Then I would identify the main points in a text and then
pick the most relevant information for my assignment. Lastly by reading actively and critically,
putting in mind sources of my information and whether they can be used to defend any
arguments made.
Examples of how I used my teamwork skills and interpersonal skills
During group work assignment in this module, we did not get to choose our groups so I had to
work with different people in every activity hence developing my interpersonal skills. This
opportunity helped me to express my ideas as well as listen to other people so that we would
bring in creativity therefore showing me the importance of team work.
Understanding ethical behaviours and legal aspects within the ICT domain.
With the world changing, it requires one to have knowledge in IT but again it comes with it
challenges. Cybercrime has been used to conduct many evils in the society and there are measure
that can be put in place to minimize such threats.
Using diversity and intercultural competency skills to work with staff and students from
different cultures.
To begin with, I had to have an understanding of what culture is and the role it plays in
communicating with people. Then I developed skills that I used to engage with my people from
different cultures. These skills were also used to assist my fellow students in reflecting their
attitudes to racism and to challenge the practices that come with racism.
Work practices and values while in the workplace
The lessons on diversity was really an eye opener. I realized that in workplaces you will always
meet people from different diversities. Having people of different diversity promotes ideas and
ensures that people are open minded. During class groups or seminars, I meet people from
different diversities and I always make them feel comfortable and part of us. This ensures that
communication is easy between us.

Looking back, I realize that ICT has really developed over the years. Various technologies have
been developed to improve certain industries in the world. My report on 3D printing, I show how
the technology can be used to enhance various industries. It has opened up new areas for
prospective companies to utilize several features such as product testing, reduction of cost,
customization and quicker designing of products.
Applications of communication and collaborative technologies
The use of social media has really brought the world closer to each other. It has made
communication very easy for people who are living in different parts of the world. The use of
emails by students and lectures has made it easy for communication and also for exchange of
information. Some of the emerging technologies include twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
PART B
This course has really helped me and taught me a lot about communicating effectively and also
how to accommodate people from different diversities. My unit learning outcome (ULO) which I
think would help me most when I become a professional is communicating ideas effectively both
verbally and in written form using appropriate language. Communication is really important in
our everyday life. To ensure that things are done correctly proper communication must be there.
Also, it ensures that there is proper understanding and enhances relationships between people.
When I become an ICT professional I should ensure that I communicate well with the people I
work with for better results. Not relaying your ideas well will lead to mistakes which might
cause damage to the organization. Therefore, I think this is a really important outcome rom the
course. Another ULO that I feel is important is how one should conduct themselves legally and
ethically. This ensures that rules and laws are followed. Also, it makes it easy for someone to be
honest, have integrity and act in the highest level of professionalism.
What I liked about this course
This course is designed to enhance and develop the communication skills that one already has.
The activities done in class also brought out the practical aspects of the real world and I enjoyed
it
Improvements to the course
Every unit should have a practical session and also bring professionals in the IT industry that
have had a challenge in our profession relating to ethics, legality and also diversity and how they
handled it
