Portfolio 2
While working on a team project I had a negative experience with a team member. The
team member was chosen as a team leader for that particular project. He was chosen as the leader
of the team because he is quite efficient in management of the different complex situations with
his proper decision making capabilities. He is a person who is quite proud of his capability and
has proper leadership capability as well. He was quite well known about his leadership
capabilities and therefore was chosen for the position. However, in this project he had tried to
lead the team in democratic way and not consulting the team members while taking a particular
decision. Since the project that we were working on was a group project and therefore the team
members’ equal involvement to the project was necessary. I had recommended a particular
design of the project which the team leader was not ready to consider, however, I knew that the
design was appropriate. This result in a conflict with the team leader and it was a bitter conflict.
In this case I now feel that my action was not positive as I could have talked about the matter
with him and tried to explain him the reason why my design was appropriate in a calm manner
instead of making an issue out of it. This later resulted in fallout of friendship with him later,
which I did not intend to.
This negative experience has however, made me understand that anger cannot be a
solution to any problem and instead a calmer approach can solve certain major fights as well. I
were the reason that the project was delayed a bit since the team leader was not ready to take into
consideration the design proposed by me and I was adamant on making use of that particular
design.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
However, with the skills that I acquired from COIT20249, I understand that I could have
handled the situation in a more professional manner. With this course, I have acquired the skills
of handling a situation in a more professional way with proper communication.
The positive impact of experiencing this situation is that I would not repeat this mistake
ever. I will always try to handle any situation in a more professional manner with a calm
approach and not with anger. I have understood that any conflict can be managed with a calmer
approach. As a negative impact of the situation, the project we were working on was delayed and
we my friendship with the team leader was tarnished. Had I tried to handle the situation in a
more professional way, these two negative impact of the situation could have been eliminated.
