Part II: Reflection on Survey
Response to question 1
Based on the survey questions, we see that there are differences in terms of the view
of child development program from both the special education teacher as well as the general
education teacher. The similarities we can find are both the teachers state that communication
skills are needed to perform the monitoring of children and create a connection with them in
the program as basic skill. They also need training and support from the school body to take
part actively in the program. The differences can be seen in the terms of barrier of the
program and conditions necessary for the program to continue. These differences are evident
as both the special education and general education teachers see the child development from
another perspective. The barriers, delivery, skills and the extra required knowledge are
different for different teachers. While both the education teachers talks more about the
consultation delivery method and the collaboration method, their principles are different.
Response to question 2
The similarities and the differences discussed in the professional role of special
education teacher will create a positive impact on the collaboration with the general
education teacher in the sense, that both of them stress on the communication skills and the
requirement of training from school. They both need support from the parents, principal and
the other peers of the school to go further in the program. However, their opinion vary where
the special education teacher stresses more on the quality of teacher training to carry the

program , but the general education teacher prefers the learning environment with better
technologies to support the students. Although the general education teacher is ready for the
program, the special education teacher is not fully.
Response to question 3
Yes, the varied responses from both the teachers surprised me. While the special
education teacher focuses on the improvement and quality of educators first to proceed with
the development with consultation from the top management, principal and administration.
The general education teacher prefer more focus on the learning delivery methods and
bringing a better school culture through the program with collaboration of parents, boards and
students together. The another thing that surprised me is both the teachers although from
varied education fields yet talk about the collaboration of full educational system right from
parents, other staff to peers and the student themselves to make the child development
program a success.
Response to question 4
I would like to more about the view of both the teachers in terms of how the child
development program will help them in their career and also the impact of the program on
their ability as educator to develop a special child. The most important thing to know is how
the child development program curriculum will be designed. Will there be special programs
designed for the disabled children? Will there be special provisions for children who go
through learning programs? How the guardians of students will be involved in the process?
How the collaboration among all the school education system components will be carried
out?

Scenario #1
From the scenario 1, where the special education teacher has been interviewed, we
come to learn about it, that the teacher prefers consultation on a priority basis to frame any
decisions and always take any further step under guidance of the principal and the school
authority bodies. The teacher considers collaboration method with other educators will help
in better in this program. The overall child development cannot be brought by one single
educator. According to the educator, the parent also play the role of influencer to the child in
the development. All the teachers together are responsible for the development. This program
from the perspective of special education will help the educators to build high skills in terms
of child psychology to monitor students more specifically according to the teacher. This is the
most critical barrier, the teacher thinks that the other teachers will face, therefore this will
create stress in educators to handle teaching and the assistance in program together. However,
the teacher feels that with a proper educational and training structure and support, the child
development program can be executed and giving due importance to the skills, abilities and
knowledge of teachers also.
Scenario #2
From the scenario 2, it can be said as per the general education teacher that
collaboration support from parents with students will bring the development better more than
the educational system consultation. Although the consultation with the principal and the
authorities are needed to guide the framework, however the wholesome support is needed
from the school with parents and children to conduct this. Most importantly rather than
collaboration technique, the co-teaching is also needed with other colleagues from other
education fields to support and communicate with the children and make them feel connect to
the overall development journey. The co-teaching technique although is required to be
applied in at small amount, but the collaboration method is needed to be used and
consultation along with. Only the support from school authority is required to provide
training. But the actual implementation lie in the hands of teachers, parents and the child.
These three elements of the program are to be nurtured together.

How Well Do you Understand?
Question 1: The first question talks about the similarities and the differences of both the
teachers. These teachers are from different fields – one from the special education and
another from the general education. The special education teacher is more concerned in one
field and the skills with knowledge is important for the special education teacher to
incorporate with the children. The children with whom the special education teacher deals
with are way different from the general education teacher’s field. The general education
teacher deals with vast subject areas and the normal development of children with equal
percentage of learning in every subject is not possible. Both of the teacher’s values and
beliefs are different.
Question 2: The second question deals with how the similarities and differences will help
these two teachers to collaborate with each other. With differences in their approaches, the
collaboration can be brought by the education system in the school with co-teaching methods,
where both the teachers will have to take part in the process to join hands and bring the
development of children together.
Question 3: The third question reveals the component of surprise in both the answers
provided by the teachers. The surprise is found to lie in their approaches and how they see the
child development from their perspectives. Although both the teachers are from the same
organization, their method of teaching and prioritizing the children needs are different. While
the special education teachers stressed on thee importance of teacher training, the general
education teacher stressed on the importance of a change in learning development. The clash
of personal with inter-personal goals are seen here. Both of the teachers carry different
theories of pedagogy.
Question 4: The fourth question deals with the enquiry element of my perceptions regarding
them and whether any extra information I need to gather. This extra information is required
because often the hidden elements behind the perceptions of people lie. In case of both the
teachers, their approaches although different, provide similarity in terms of training and
agreeing to the collaboration method of teaching children in the child development program.
This gives the impression to find more details of how they will both collaborate from
different fields and how the students will be nurtured through this program.
