economic development of the country.
Introduction to collection policy
Collection policy can be defined as the systematic evaluation of the library with the
aim to determine the extent to which the organisation can meet the library’s service goals and
objective and the informational needs for the clients. It is a planning function which is
necessary for the system to build the collection (Thomas, Theocharous & Ghavamzadeh,
2015). The traditional functions are selection, acquisition, preservation, conversation,
assessment and gift and exchange. The deficiencies of the organisation are classified through
the collection development policy. The chosen organisation for this essay is Curtin
University Library Collection Principles. The university is an international university which
deals with over 38,000 full time equivalent students and 3400 staffs. This university is
primarily a provider of scholarly information and resources. On the other hand the chosen

tool, by identifying the digital tool which can assist in making the work more effective and
lastly evaluate the tool for the available resources and cater to the opportunity for new
resources. In the above organisation which is Curtin University Library Collection Principles
is currently using the cloud computing system where the use of social media is also involved.
When a group is being addressed about certain task it is important to demystifying the
technology as it helps in technical assistance. It is important to cater with the audience with
the information of the organisation with the help of website, email, newsletters, and
managing database, mapping and data visualization.
The policy of the organisation must be relevant and effective for the organisation
where the employees are involved. This is the reason why evaluation is necessary after the
policy are implemented (Gatta & Marcucci, 2016). The organisation might not know if it
needs to be reformed until the organisation does not have a process. On the other hand the
issues can be examined on the basis of post cancellation rights, preservation agreements,
perpetual access and user rights are very significant. These tends to have a different effect on

Access and acquisition
The access and acquisition policy caters to the instrument which improves the
archival institution and the direction for making the appraisal. The acquisition becomes the
backbone of the archival institution and can acquire comprehensive holdings, systematic
manner and coordination (De Houwer, 2017). The policy guides the organisation by four
choices which are the utility, feasibility, proprietary and accuracy. There are several activities
that are performed in a cohesive manner and in the absence of cohesive and systematic
performance for the activities and achieving the objective. Hence it can be said that the
resources would be underutilized. Therefore it is the functional unit of the management to
facilitate the activities so that the objectives can be achieved and accomplished.
Utility: the employee or the stakeholders who want to evaluate the result and assume the
main purpose.
Feasibility: these are the evaluation procedure, given time, expertise and the resources which
are available.
Accuracy: these are the approaches at each step of the accuracy which is given to the
stakeholders who needs to evaluate the purpose.
Propriety: in this approach the evaluation takes place in an ethical and fair manner.
The access which is available for the stakeholder in the organisation are the extension
programme because it is an effective measure to manage the people and it requires constant
planning and development. There must be a presence of a manager who vest the formal
authority of the organisation (Price & Savova, 2015). Therefore it enables the manager to
devise the strategies and attain the goals of the organisation by keeping its technology
updated. With the recent development in the technological world the organisation must cater

to adopt the modern updated machinery and technology so that the management can practice

must face the same challenges which are prone to the area of resources, objective and time in
order to reach and accomplish the task and implement idea at the same situation.
The libraries always strive to work hard and remain committed to ensure full access in
their full range of service and facilities to their clientele. There has to be a heavy investment
on the library for the purpose of the electronic resource such in case of e-book, journals,
website and other database. There is a high expectation from the best value of the electronic
resources and caters to provide the best services (Meng, 2015). The optimum value for these
resources is possible only when there is adequate and proper facility provided. On a general
note the online sources are made available through the library resources which can be
obtained from the official website and over the IP range of the institution or organisation.
There are people who needs access to the e-resources which can be termed as oversea
assignment. This can be made possible with help of the ICTs using the remote access tools.
On the other hand it can make use of the Virtual Private Network as it covers practicalities of
the administering the VPN system.
The non-standard restrictions on inter-library loan can be accessed with the code
which describes the responsibility of the various library and the requesting materials of the
users. The technology has expanded with the option of the tradition of library to library
transaction and the facility of request of direct to user (Mapulanga, 2015). These codes make
it easier to access the responsibility of the patron library for the return and safety of the
borrowed materials. Lastly it can be said that the ethical issues include the accessibility of the

Selection and deselection principles
Selection in collection policy can be termed as the interpretive and judgmental
process which involve the knowledge of the subject and its significance, these tends to be
familiar in the collection. There is awareness on the material which is available on the subject
and caters to need recognition of the community. There are various tool for selection and the
most important among all is the book review (Nankya, Nsibirano & Byamugisha, 2016).
There are different mediums that assist in selection of books. Among the book review it can
be best recommended that the title list and the annotated bibliography should be based on
small fraction of books published. The principle that caters to guide the guide the selection
policy is the selection tool which has been discussed earlier in this assignment. These create a
guideline for the selection policy so that those involved are aware of the principles. The
selection criteria for purchased materials of all kinds is depended on the price, currency and
authority.
The pricing criteria is a representative of the characteristics of the deal or customer.
The pricing administration tends to set up the pricing criteria and they are referred as the key
factors of the business. The customer value includes low, medium and high category. On the
other hand in terms of selection criteria of authority it can be referred to as the list of
consideration and the requirement which can be used to evaluate the most prospective
consultant. These criteria further establish the contracting authority in accordance with the
contracting entity. The purchased item can be termed same as the gifted item because it
depends from people to people in what way they want to utilize their product (Reinhorn&
Johnson, 2015). The purchased item can amount to goods and services which are bought in
exchange of monetary value. It can be referred to as the quality, quantity and cost of goods

the purchase allowance and return. The purchased items can be a service that can be utilized
for the person for whom it is bought or it can be kept for self-use also.
When the gifts are attached with few conditions by the donor it may arise in few
instance that if a book is dangled with money as a leverage it can act as a broader goal. In
case of complaints there are four easy steps which can be followed and they are:
Listen with open mind: it is important to what the people has to say and prejudging the
situation. Before client says anything it is the responsibility of the management to understand
the requirement and be aware by the customer is upset.
Repeating the problem back: if the problems are repeated for the second time it tends to be
that there are different views from the people and the employee must know the position
where it has to be acknowledged.
Follow up promptly: it is important to follow up the report once the data goes wrong and
steps planned caters to rectify the situation and prevent of what can go wrong.
The deselection or weeding of the equipment or materials are the ongoing aspect of
the collection of management in the academic library (Ellermann & Goenaga, 2019). The
library carefully selects it material and adds to its collection. This approach is withdrawing
the customers in order to maximize the collection and make it useful. The FAU library tales
further decision on the period deselects materials and ensures that there is collection viable
and continues to support the research. Lastly the faulty are encouraged to work and hence
provide feedback to the library staff with the responsibility of identifying the material to
