1REFLECTION ON COLLEGE LIFE EXPERIENCE
College life is said to be the ideal phase of an individual’s life where he or she
experiences a lot of incidents that creates a huge impact on the life of the individual in the long
run. Most of these incidents and situations help the individual to develop his hidden skill that he
might have been unaware of. As a result, these incidents and situations contribute in the process
individual development of skills that might become useful for the person in the long run.
While I was in first year of my college, I experienced quite a few incidents like this
which, have turned out to be extremely valuable for me, in the later part of my college life. It was
my business management class and we were discussing about effective management of time in
the in the taking business decisions. The lesson that I learned that day remained with me for the
rest of my college days. It was then I learned that we human beings many a times are unaware of
our own talents as many of us do not get opportunities to prove ourselves (Batool, 2013).
When we were doing the assignment, the professor asked the students to make small
groups among themselves so that every student get a chance to share their own views on the
mentioned topic. This gave an opportunity for all the students to take part pro-actively in the
discussion of the topic. Each team selected a leader who was asked to gather the opinions of his
or her team members. My team members selected me as the leader of the team and I was asked
to take the views of each members individually and their reflection on the discussed topic. As a
result of this I got an opportunity to know each of them personally and to my surprise I came to
learn about different cultural aspects of different community. This group discussion was so
advantageous that I realized that diversity can also exist within such small group.
However, the most important advantage of this group discussion that I found was the
emergence and development of a leader from a simple student. As the discussion proceeded, I
found that this group discussion is not only about knowing each member individually but also it

is about managing an entire team. Leading an entire team is not at all an easy task as it requires
some leadership qualities (Harris et al., 2013). Leadership qualities are very essential for the
future prospect of a student as in this highly competitive world team performance is equally
essential for the progress of an organization (Batool, 2013). When I was asked to take the
opinions of all my team members I found each members coming up with a new decision each
time. It became even more difficult when I had to take a final decision regarding the solution of
the topic as each of them were of different opinions and I had to face difficulties in taking the
final verdict (Harris et al., 2013). However, these challenges made me aware that I am also
capable of leading a team and there are possibilities that in the near future these leadership
qualities can help me in building my career.
