Stress is an inevitable aspect in the life of the individuals, which arises from different
factors, psychological, social and emotional among others. One of the basic facts related to
stress is adjusting to a new environment, new colleagues and others. Incapability towards
performing according to the expectations is one of the basic foundations for stress. In this
situation, Bamber and Schneider, (2016) is of the view that the students feel depressed and
need strong support for coping up from the scenarios. In case of the students coming from the
foreign lands, it is difficult to adjust in a totally new environment, far away from the near and
dear ones. It is at this stage, when they look for furry friends like dogs, cats and others, who
can provide the much needed emotional and mental support (Oaklandpostonline.com, 2019).
It is interesting to note that Oakland Center hires puppies for providing the much
needed relaxation to the students. Social psychology programs are effective in terms of
reducing the stress and anxiety among the students. Evaluation of the results has resulted in
increased confidence, better self-perceptions regarding enhancement of the standards of
living. On the contrary, the dogs are also trained, which evokes disciplines and a sense of
leadership between them. The operations are governed through Americans with Disability
Act (ADA), which trains the dogs for performing tasks for people with disabilities
(Oaklandpostonline.com, 2019). In this context, mention can also be made of the recreation
centres, which look after controlling the stress level of the students. The special activities are
physical activities, stress management exercises and social interactions.
It is also to be noted that failing to meet the expectations generates a stressful
situation for the students in the college. In this situation, Saul and Fish, (2019) opines that
there are heavy mood swings, which brings noticeable changes in the performance.
Sometimes, these changes are so intense, that it results in health disorders, requiring the
physicians to intervene into the matter. The number of students seeking for treatment
regarding depression and stress reflects the incapability of the college administrators towards

ensuring their wellbeing (Time.com, 2019). The need of the hour is more motivational
lectures, seminars and sessions, which would keep the students engaged in the courses.
Extracurricular activities like face to face sessions need to be conducted for gaining an insight
into the issues, which the students are facing. These sessions would increase the stability in
the relationship with the professors.
Stress management exercises can also be conducted in terms of catering to the health
issues of the students. Bamber and Schneider, (2016) assumes that check-ups can be one of
the means for detecting the presence of any serious illness and issues, which can affect the
academic performance of the students. Physicians can also be hired for delivering lectures
regarding maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Counselling sessions would be effective for
detecting the issues, which are acting as an obstacle in the process of academic establishment
in case of the college students (Time.com 2019).
