COMMUNICATION SKILLS ARE CRITICAL TO EFFECTIVELY
IMPLEMENTING STRATEGY IN WORKPLACE
Communication refers to the process with the help of which an individual makes transfer
of ideas, facts, feelings from one person to another in an understandable way. Communication
Skills are are the skills which makes an individual to make effective transfer of ideas, facts and
feelings in an effective manner (Bengo, 2016). Communication plays an important role in
maintaining proper relationship with the employees working in an organisation in an effective
manner with the help of which the working of organisation could be made smooth. The
following paper will focus and provide discussion in the concept of communication skills
communication process, barriers to communication and will provide guidance to administrators
in order to make improvement in their communication effectiveness.
Communication plays an important role in making transfer of facts and ideas from one
person to another person. It is an art which is not possible for everyone to gain because it is not
an easy task for an individual to make the other individual clear with what the first wants to
convey (Chan, Purcell and Power, 2016). At the workplace, the effectiveness will be clear when
an organisation is able to achieve their goals and objectives in an effective manner. However,
communication provides many benefits to organisation and individuals but its implementation
proves to be a challenge for the organisations as they are responsible for providing information
to the lower level employees and it depends upon their own understanding that in what way the
message had reached to them.
The above is the process of communication by which the message is sent from one
individual and is received from the other individual in the same way in which the first wants to

transmit it. Sender makes use of words, symbols, etc. in order to put forth information into a
message for the receiver. In the workplace as well, the sender is the person who tries to convey
facts and ideas from one person to another in an understandable way. In organisations,
communication plays an important role in the success and failure because on the basis of
provided information to an individual the future work is continued (Cottrell, 2017). With the help
of accurate decoding, it could be made possible to transfer right information to the receiver and
also get right output.
There are different channels of communication that could be used by individuals working
in an organisation and the selection of proper means of communication is another important
decision which the organisation needs to take with care. There are many ways that employees in
an organisation makes contact with other employees working in the organisation such as verbal
skills, listening skills, writing skills, technological communicating skills, social graces, body
language, emotional IQ and grooming (Noe and et. al., 2017). Each type of skill have their own
importance and use with the help of which it becomes possible to make proper communication
with other person. So the development of these skills in employees in order to make the
communication process of an organisation to be strong is very essential. With the help of these
skills, it will be possible to make proper transfer of facts and ideas in between different
employees and efficiency could be achieved in working of organisation. It is communication
skill with the help of which managers makes ultimately get the work done from employees. It is
not the one way process but the two ways process in which it is important that it must pass from
both the transferrer and transferee in an understandable way (Domitrovich and et. al., 2017).
Additionally, there are also some barriers to communication which the organisations must
know about in order to reduce their impact and eradicate them from the organisation and make
employees effective and efficient to deal good with the situation. So the barriers to effective
communication in an organisation are presented as under:
Personal Barriers
These are those barriers which arises due to the perceptions of an individual, frame of
reference, beliefs and values of an individuals. These are based on the socio-economic
background and prior experiences and shape how messages are encoded and decoded. For
example, some people make transfer of information because of their personal gain and promotion
and in order to show themselves above as compared to others. So these kind of activities also

lead to discourage in organisation and also reduces the effectiveness of communication in the
organisation (Howlett and Ramesh, 2016).
Environmental Barriers
The organisational setting and environment also plays an important role in influencing
the nature and behaviour of individuals impacting negatively on the communication process as
well. Employees may like or not like the environment of an organisation which not only impacts
upon their way of communication but also on their nature, work and efficiency as well. Improper
time is another barrier due to which employees do not get proper time to know, understand and
give their reaction on the action. At this situation, the receiver without having proper knowledge
and information about what the message wants to convey gives reaction and this impacts upon
the accuracy and efficiency of working in negative way (Jackson, 2016).
Ways to make Improvement in Communication Strategy of Organisations
The suggested are the ways with the help of which it could become possible to overcome
the issues which have been faced by the organisation in order to make effective communication
with their employees:
It is important to make sure about attention of both the senders and the receivers at the
time of delivering their messages so that it could be confirmed whether the other
individual had gone through the message or not (Jang, 2016).
The construction of management philosophy that increases the flow of communication is
constructive.
Focus of organisations should be made on reducing the number of links or the ways
through which information passes from one person to another so that the real information
could reach. It is because when information passes through many hands, there comes
some changes impacting upon the content mentioned in message.
So with the help of above provide measures, it will be possible for the organisation to
make effective implementation of communication skills and strategies in their organisation for
the betterment and efficiency in work.
