Challenges and barriers to effective communication
Due to COVID 19, people are unable to communicate effectively with each other.
It is important that there is proper interaction between teachers and students. The
common barriers that are faced are mentioned below:
Technical Problem: As there is requirement of proper internet connection so that
an online meeting is conducted effectively (Bunn and Johnson, 2019). Students
face various issues that are related to connectivity and sometimes the lectures are
missed.
Emotional barrier: As there is no chance to interact, it is causing emotional
problems to the students. They are unable to understand as there is one-to-one
teaching facility available for them. The students are getting demotivated due to
these online studies.
Physical Barriers: Due to more use of mobile phones and laptops the physical
health of students is getting impacted (Darko and et.al., 2017). The students are
getting headaches and they are unable to sit properly which is also causing adverse
impact on the health of the students. The physical health of the students is
important as if they are fit then only they will be able to study effectively.
Noise Barriers: As there are so many students that start speaking one on one, that
causes disturbance in the class and this is an example to noise barrier. As the
student is sometimes unable to understand the point discussed by the teacher.
Cultural Barrier: As the student went England to study and due to lock down
they feel cultural barrier (Madsen and Farrell, 2021). They are unable to
communicate in their own language. They miss the normal days.
These are some of the challenges that are faced by the students. This is due
to ineffective communication. It is important that all the students are able to
interact with the teachers so that they are able to study effectively.

Effective communication will help the student to study in a proper way. It is important
to identify the strategies that will help to overcome the barriers. The various strategies
that will help are mentioned below:
For proper communication good internet connection is required. So the college
should suggest the students the best connection and motivate them to use the
same so that there is no network error between the sessions.
The sessions should be recorded and provided to the students so that if they
have lost the connection in between they are able to study the same through
recorded sessions.
There should be meetings arranges for students in which the teacher
interacts with them on personal basis as it used to be in normal
classrooms. As it will motivate the students and they will be able to
share their problems.
It is suggested that there should be online meditation and yoga classes
that will help to maintain physical health. As well they should not be
allowed to sit in improper position during the class.
The students should not speak in between the lecture and of they have
some query they can write it in the chat box.
