INTRODUCTION
Communication is a process of sharing as well as exchanging of information and ideas
with one person to another. In addition of this, collaboration refer to the action of working with
others with the aim of achieving certain goals and objectives (Keast and Mandell, 2014). Present
report is based on Tesco, is British multinational company operate their business in retail sector.
Report is discussed about core principles, theories and different methods of communication and
collaboration which help in improving performance of the workers at workplace.
MAIN BODY
Gibbs reflective cycle
It is one of the important and popular models for reflection that includes 6 stages that
reflect the experience and also evaluate the ways about how an individual could do better in next
time to attain best results (Gibbs' Reflective Cycle, 2019). Both collaboration and communication
are interpersonal skills that help workers to perform their task in a team. For attaining set target
and sustainable competitive advantage, it is important for manager and leader to develop these
types of skills to improve their performance. With the help of this, workers can easily interface
productively with their colleagues. As an assistant manager, it is important for me to understand
my communication and collaboration skills at workplace to enhance my working skill at
workplace. By using 6 stage of reflective model, I can easily analyse my experience and
learning.
Description
Communication and collaboration skills are the important for every worker to perform
allotted task and activities within the organization. For establishing collaboration, effectively
communication is important for individuals to achieve set targets. As an assistant manager of
Tesco, it is important for me to have effective communication and collaboration skills so that I
can easily improve overall performance of the company and its workers working with me. To
demonstrate my skills as per organisation I used Gibbs reflective model which will help me in
encouraging thinking related with my experience of communication and collaboration skills.
I am an assistant manager of Tesco and currently focus on the understanding about
communication and collaboration skills. In this phase, I am learning how to improve both skills
at a workplace to attain set goals. At the time of performing organizational activities I feel that

my communication skills in not much effective. However, when I was communicating with my
team members, I was so nervous and also hesitate to share my ideas. When I learn about
principles and methods of communication, I understood the need of clear, concise and
compelling with team members and mentor.
Feelings
In my opinion communication and collaboration play important role in team working
within the organization. It helps in increasing the chances of attaining set goals and objectives in
stipulate time frame. As an assistant manager, it is important for me to effectively communicate
and collaborate with my team members so that I can make people work according to my
instruction and responsibilities. . On the other side, when I worked in a team I learnt that my
collaboration is good but some time lack of communication skills create issues between
colleagues. From the learning I analysed that effective collaboration skills help in resolving
issues easily. Along with this, I feel feedbacks from team members and peers helped me in
outlining needs of improving communication skills by using appropriate methods and theories of
communication. In this context, I was learnt about Classical theories, Magic Bullet theory, Two
step flow theory, Multi step flow theory and many more to make my communication skills strong
and appropriate as well. Thus, I can say that these skills will support me in improving our
communication skills within the team which is necessary in guidance and making people work.
Evaluation
As an Assistant manager within an organisation, I have to perform many functions. From
the above description of the feelings in relation to the tasks which are carried on by me,
exploring that I have good collaboration skill but my communication is not much appropriate
according to the different workplace task situations. One of the aspects which goes good in the
performance of task that having good teams which performs their respective functions. The only
bad experience that was occur with me is due to having lack in my communication skill which
results in creation of personal issues and lack in sharing of ideas with peers. The theory which
can be used for purpose of evaluation is Classical. As principles of this theory has more
emphasis on completion of work on the basis of performance plans, adherence of organisational
structure and building power relationships. The points which are identified after comparison with
the different perspectives of theory is about low competence in patience, politeness in

communication, listening of other ideas and matters calmly etc. All these advises seems to be
very important for me in the end, for the purpose of development of own communication skills.
Analysis
Communication and collaboration are important for me to effectively work in the team
and keep positive relation with all the team members.
According to (Wang and Duan, 2018), Classical theory covers the principles about
working on the basis of structure of the organisation, building power relationships and
performance according to organisational plans. Performance according to plans governs about
working on the basis of predetermined activities that are setup in between manager and
employees. This will help the employees to understand their roles and responsibilities according
to their position within an organisation. Secondly, building power relationship is important
aspect as this will have positive contribution in both about building communication and
collaboration effectively. After comparison from the principles provided by author identified that
I lack in building relationship which affects my communication process and restricts me to attain
the view points of other.
This will provide the opportunity to understand the importance of others view in the
process accomplishment of organisational objectives, simultaneously this will help to follow the
structure of an organisation and per plans properly.
Conclusion
In this, I do several things to improve my communication and collaboration skills at
workplace. I would like to summarize by stating that I should interact with the team members
and share my views with them. This will help me in improving staff in discussion and decision
making which will boost my interpersonal skills and communication at workplace. From
acceptance of classical theory, I improved my communication skills and also know about how to
interact with team members and make positive relation.
By using effective principle of communication and collaboration like Clear, Concise and
Compelling. Thus, I will conclude by stating that improvement in inter action and collaboration
in firm will help in making my communication skills stronger.
Action plan
In future, I will focus on building up positive relation with my team members at
workplace. From the above evaluation and analysis, I analysed that as an assistant manager I

need to focus on improving my patience, confidence, politeness, etc. The aspect which is choose
for the purpose of my own development of different perspectives of communication is about
ascertainment of the principles governed under Classical theory. This will provide an opportunity
to understand the situations in which I lack that directly hampers my communication. One of the
perspective in Classical theory about the building relationship is most important in nature to
attain the trust of others and build effective communication. Following the different principles
governed under classical theory help to improve communication and building effective relation
with peers.
CONCLUSION
From the mentioned report, it has been concluded that communication and collaboration
skills are the important for every leader and manager to accomplished their target in allotted time
frame. Also, feedback from the seniors is also effective approach to know the perspectives of
communication which requires to improve. In this, effective theories, principle and models are
also used to improve the same. Theory which is used for the purpose of development of
communication is Classical which help to work according to management structure and
organisational objectives.
