COMMUNICATION
INTRODUCTION
Communication Barriers refers to the obstacle which create breakdown in the
communication process and prevent parties to sending or receiving messages from each
other. This poster will highlight the communication barriers face by Mr Fisher, strategies
for overcoming with these barriers and create awareness of cultural influences on
communication and negotiation.
Common Communication Barriers
Due to Brexit possibilities, In the Fish and Chips Organization,
there can be occurrence of communication barriers between British and
Non-British staff working under the company. These communication
barriers are as follows -
Language – British staff has different language and non-British staff
who may come from different countries have different language. This
lead to wrong interpretation of common words which are speaking in
all the language. This wrong interpretation can lead to
misunderstandings which result in communication breakdown.
Signs and Symbols – Like language, every countries' cultures are also
different. Staffs of the Fish and Chips Organization are from different
cultural background which means their nonverbal communication (in
which signs and symbols are used) are also different. Using of these
signs and symbols by the staffs for the communication with others can
lead to creation of misunderstanding and miscommunication which lead
to communication breakdown in the company.
Development of Strategies to Overcome With the Communication Barriers
In order to overcome with the communication barriers in the Organization, Company's
manager Mr Fishy can devise and implement following strategies which are as follows -
One Language Policies – Manager of the firm should make language policy in which every staff of
the organization should have at least one common language and they can only communicate in that
one common language. This will lead to no misinterpretation of the messages and no breakdown in
communication.
Provide Training Opportunities – Another strategy is that manager can provide their staffs a
training program in which the focus will be on common language and cultural knowledge so that
staffs who are from different culture and language can understand the organizational cultural and
language. This would lead to no misunderstanding between any staffs.
Cultural Influences on Communication and Negotiation
Cultural Influences on Communication
People who are from different cultural background can have different
communication style. A person who belongs to a culture will let another person to
complete their sentences. While another person who are from different culture
can cut the person in middle and tell them their own point of view. Like this,
culture impacts the communication.
Cultural Influence on Negotiation
Due to differences between cultures, the people (who are negotiating
with each other) can perceive the goals of negotiating with each other differently.
One party can perceive it from the point of view of creating relationship with
each other while the party can understand it as a way of doing contract with each
other. Like this, culture can affect the negotiation.
CONCLUSION
From the above study, it has been summarized that communication
plays an important role in the operation of the business. Thus, manager and
employees of the organization should look after the effectiveness of the
communication. Along with this, culture and communication are interrelated
to each other in many ways.
