A Reflective Essay about Effective Communication & Improving
Performance, & how this influenced my Performance, behaviour &
experience
This piece of reflective writing utilises Driscoll’s model of reflection (1994). Here I
will discuss my experiences at work/in education (WHICH OF THESE TWO DO
YOU WRITE ABOUT? WORK, OR EDUCATION?) where I demonstrate
effective communication, and the process that enabled me to improve my
performance, in the table below:

of effective communication
What is/was the Purpose? Effectively communication helps in exchange of
information between poeple thorugh written, oral
and other means. It involves sender, reciever and
message that have to be send to other person.
Communication plays important purpose and role
in both personal and professional life. As a person
is able to shares its felling, view, ideas and opinion
to other person. It is most improtant skills that
every employer looks while selecting particular
individual within firm. As per my person
experience communicate helps in inducing poeple
to perfom specific task in particular manner.in my
previous job as customers relationship service
provider communication is crucial to build strong
relationship with customers.
What happened in the
event/scenario?
When i was performing my job as customer
relationship manager i felt that communication was
to improtant to handle probelm and greviance of
people. As a incedent happened with me an
consumer was not happy with quality of product
but due to my poor communication skill i
understand that he was not statisfied with quantity.
Thus, it result in miscommunication and
interpretation result in dissatisfaction of
customers need.
What did I see/do during the
event?
Then in order to resolve problemfirstly i identify what
things thathave gone wrong and plan steps to be taken in
order to fulfill requirements of customersso company can
grow.
What was my reaction to it? It was one of the turning point of my life where i get to
know about roles and importance of communication skill in
particular life. Without effective communication the
information shared goes wrong and individual and

How did I feel at the time of
the event?
At the time of event happened i think there was no mistake
of me but as after some days i got to know that becuase of
my ineffective communication skills company has to face
large amount of losses. Thus communication is an importnat
part of life.

different from other people
who were involved at the
time?
From the incendent i have learnt that communication is
most crucail and necessary skill that every company require
for effectively coordination among employees and
achievement of organisational objectives. Communication
adversely impact on individual performance and helps in
growth and success in personal and professional life.
Effectively communication reduce chance of confusion and
conflict among employees on various roles and
responsibilities performed by each department.
Are my feelings now, after the
event, any different from what
I experienced at the time?
I have learned lot many thing from incidents that various
factors such as effectively listening, using of proper words
and medium of message plays role in communication. In
order to gain differentiate position i have to learn good
communication skills. At the same time spend time to
understand what customers wants to speak so that
company can achieve its objectives. I have also decided to
avaoid using words that have similar meaning to reduce
confusion and misunderstanding and promote effectively
communicate between employees and customers. If i am
has to loss lot of customers as there needs and required are
not satisfied within limited time. On the other hand

reciever in order to know that he has understood what
might i want to speak. To avoid use of similar words or
technical to reduce confusion and misunderstanding.

taking a more measured look
at it?
I noticed many things about my behaviour in order to
improve my communication skill. To avoid word that have
similar meaning and to listen properly to problem and issue
faced by customers. I should also able to influence people
by building strong relationship with them.

person helping me to reflect
on my practice make of the
way I acted at the time?
Exchange of information in company is important to avoid
overlapping of work. Employees by communicatewith each
other is able to know that various roles and responsibilities
will be played by individual in the organisation.Ineffective
communication result in conflict and negatively imapct on
performance of individual and he is not motivated to work
hard for success of company.

subordinate that they have understood in an effectively

Communication helps in cooperation and coordination
among employee's and achievement of goals.
