INTRODUCTION
Communication plays an important in health and social care organizations. Effective
communication leads to better understanding of the problems and helps in building cooperative
environment at workplace. Various theories have been developed for communication process
such as behavioural, humanistic, cognitive, etc. (Betancourt and et.al., 2016) It is responsibility
of workers to ensure that every patient get treated equally and fairly without any discrimination.
Employees should be given trainings for using new technologies and equipments that are
beneficial in treatment procedures. Impact of legislation, code of practices on interaction
processes will be discovered in the report. The study will also discover values and cultural
factors that may affect effectiveness of the communication processes. ICT Software packages in
providing support in health care sector will also be discussed.

2.1 Influence of values and cultural factors on the communication process
Values and cultural factors are directly associated with the communication procedure in
health and social care. They are inherited in the organisation which influences effective
conversation. It includes showing regard for one another and respecting perceptions and
viewpoints as well (Glasby, 2017). All the employees of the organisation are brought into similar
platform where they are treated equally without any discrimination on the basis of gender, caste,
religion etc. At many places, people are not treated equally and face favouritism. Interaction
process gets hampered due to ineffective values and cultural factors. For example, if people have
predefined conceptions about gender, religion, sex etc. that keeps on affecting their values at
health care homes. It may result into following situations:
People would form groups on the basis of caste and religion and accordingly preference
would be given to those patients only who belong to their considerings (Antheunis and
et.al., 2013).
Individual person would also get targetted with the procedure by the service providers.
In both scenarios, due to improper inheritance of values resulted in discrimination process which
as major impact on interaction procedures.

Let's take another example of respect. It is necessary to have respect for one another. In
the given case, student trainee did not show respect to the ill patient and instead shouted on him
for wetting bed and made opinion about the mentor that he is trying to bully her. Disrespect was
the outcome of individual's ethics and values for others. It is very essential in care homes to
provide such an environment where support for one another is fostered. Communication between
employees and with customers can never be enhanced if people does not have respect for one
another.
2.2 Impact of legislation, charters and codes of practise on communication process in health and
social care
Various techniques have been acquired by health care organisations for improvement in
communication process. Legislation helped in the process by focusing on interaction patterns
(Boulware, 2016). Data protection Act is very influencing gives importance to effective
communication among customers and service providers of health care homes. Information
related to the patients about medical history, past records and personal information are kept
safely so that details can be provided to the organisations whenever required. This is helpful in
situation when people are not able to talk and express their thoughts effectively. Laws related to
the sex and discrimination act has directly impacted communication procedures. Nobody can be
treated unfairly on any grounds. It leads to abolishment of discrimination factors and provided
much comfort to the employees and service users at workplace. It promotes working
environment which should be equal for everyone. Codes of practices are driven by legislations. It
is the responsibility of organization to maintain confidentiality of data and information of the
patients. It is very essential because breaching of trust could lead to distribution of information
which might be used in illegal considerations (Dickinson and et.al., 2016). Equality is required to
be maintained by the workers of the health and social acre and everyone should be provided fair
and equal facilities and nobody should be given preference on the basis of contacts with higher
authorities of the firm and many more factors.
2.3 Effectiveness of organisational systems and policies in promoting good practice in
communication
Policies and organisational systems helps in promoting effective communication
practices at workplace. In legal environment, Policies are strictly followed. It comprises values
and ethics that is being followed in the organisation in order to improve communication

within a firm which they have to duly fulfil. Discipline gets introduced due to fear of

People try to follow all the rules and avoid dishonourable activities and happenings in the
premises which may affect interaction process. Responsible behaviour and attitude of an
individual is essential in the health care homes. It can only be ensured by implementing policies
and rules within organisation. People obeying all the rules should be rewarded and appreciated
for their work which would help in motivating them to work in positive direction. Good
communication can be promoted by these parameters. It will also help in creating such an
environment where employees themselves will work towards betterment procedures.
Performance of the workers should also be assessed on regular intervals to ensure nothing wrong
with the service users occurs in the health care homes (Best and et.al., 2014). Confidentiality of
data and information can be maintained by implementing policies in the organisation.
2.4 Ways to improve the communication process in a health and social care
Several ways are available to improve communication process in social and health care.
These are described below: Feedback form: It is the easiest way to improve communication within an organisation.
Behaviour of an individual can be used in assessment process of the performance. It helps
in encouragement process where people communication is carried out in good way.
Feedback forms should be used for getting opinions about each others' working and
behaviour. It can also be provided to the service users where they fill up necessary
improvements and their experience with the attendants and the hospital facilities (Arnold
and et.al., 2015). If patient does not mental stability then their closed ones should be
given feedback forms. All such activities helps in identifying opportunities that could
help in development process of the organisation. Training: It is one of the contributing factor in improvement process of health and social
care. Training could be provided to use new equipments and technology. Staff should
also be provided with gesture ad sign language learning. Trained individual would be
able to understand needs of the patients effectively. Listening skills should be developed
by the staff members.

Legal Policies implementation: This is one of the compelling ways to make
improvements in interaction procedures (Milar and et.al., 2013). It introduces
responsibilities among the team members and people have restrictions to follow them
properly.

There are several benefits associated with using ICT applications by the professional of
health and social care within the organisation. It contributes in care provisions and effectively
monitors activity. Benefits are described below:
Service quality has been improved due to usage of ICT applications. It guarantees
service providers of the organisation for support in healthcare practises which involves
effective communication at workplace (Hockenberry and et.al., 2014).
Coordination among health and social care activities has been improved which has helped
in reducing failures that may occur due errors generated by medications. For example,
electronic health records can be used for gathering information. Information systems can
also be used for the process. All these helped in improving communication among
shareholders of the organisation.
Living standards of the individuals has also improved in health care practices by reducing
risks and threats related to health. Safety measures have also been taken into
consideration which could be ensured by using the latest technologies. For security
purposes alarm systems can be used, systems for monitoring videos can also be used in
security purposes (Pickles and et.al., 2016). There are sensors also available nowadays
that have proved to be beneficial regarding safety concerns.

Legal considerations are there in the usage of ICT applications. Cultural relevance is the
deciding factor in the success of ICT and technologies. ICT evolution should be supported by the

is not incorporated by all the fields of health and social care. Usage of ICT could be beneficial in

positive and favourable outcomes of ICT applications (Tse and et.al., 2015). New tools have
been developed for designing medicines that could be used in the future.
Professionals of health and social care organisations are also required to take ethical and
legal problems into consideration which are related to the usage of ICT software packages in
healthcare activities. They should safeguard data and information of the patients. ICT provides
opportunities for learning technology which can be applied in control processes of health and
social care activities. Following problems are recommended to be addressed :
Identification of the needs and requirements of ICT in the sector of health and social care.
To integrate ICT's in the existing systems, certain standards should be developed.
Facility should be provided to access information and information sharing activities

in order to build system where patient can trust.
