SUBJECT: Routine Enquiry about Career Exploration as a Mentor
Dear Sir,
While browsing through the internet, I recently discovered the existence of Mentoring
organization that grants necessary advice to the people considering a career path. The
organization that actually caught my attention was Mentors, Inc (mentorsinc.org, 2018). I
have always wanted to be a mentor. The very idea of supporting my community through
helping the young students reach a bright career path has always fascinated me. A mentor is
always able to provide the mentee the necessary motivation, guidance and emotional support.
By choosing to be a mentor, I will also be able to keep current and will be able to strengthen
my professional network. The field will also enable me in extending my academic
contribution and help in developing relationship with the people with whom I might also be
one of my future colleagues.
Although I am still a student but have gained enough expertise in the varied areas related to
the students. I also have the will to devote enough energy and time to the mentees beyond and
above the responsibilities of a normal faculty. Moreover, I am quite accessible and
approachable, encouraging, supportive, flexible and patient. I am also tolerant and respectful
of the individual differences and possess the ability of taking in constructive feedback. In

addition, I also have the ability to solve problems and suggest solution/alternatives wherever
required.
Sir, I have a keen interest in your company and would like to join your company as a mentor
but before that I would like to ask you few questions. This will help me in estimating my
understanding and the skills required for entering the organization.
1. What are the necessary criteria in terms of qualification that you recommend me to
be fulfilled in order to become a part of your organization?
2. What qualities do you recommend for a person before he/she is recruited?
3. Is there any specific method that you recommend me to follow for effective
mentoring of the students?
4. Can you recommend any specific certifications courses available where I can enrol
that will make me more marketable in the industry? Does the company recommend offering
any training program for the mentors?
5. If all my criteria seem to be perfect, can you please recommend me the ways as to
how to apply for the post? Even if there is no position vacant, I would also be open to
internship in your firm for helping me develop the required skills.
You are someone who has been in the industry for a long time hence your knowledge and
advice will necessarily guide me towards pursuing my career choice. Given the work
schedule, I know that you seem to be quite a busy professional and I appreciate the time that
you have invested in reading my inquiry. I hope to hear from you soon regarding the
concerned queries.
