COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Introduction
In our world, each and everyone wants to express themselves to make other understand what
they are trying to do for that the person has to communicate to the other people by which
others can understand that what the person is wanting and this process is for everyone. We
called this process as communication which is the most important power of all human being
because without the communication system the whole world will become dumb nothing will
be available without the communication system. Communication is the process where a
person can share their ideas, problems and the thoughts with their needs. A relationship
depends upon the communication that might be the business relation or a personal relation
because if a person stops responding to the other person that time there will be no
communication between those people and this will indicate that the for the lack of
communication the relation has broken. So any relation can be spoiled without the
communication.
Communication
Communication is not only a process but a common language by which people can express
themselves in this world. To enable the communication process for a broader aspect, there
has been lot thing which has been invented. On the beginning days, people use to write letters
or try to communicate one person face to face. After that period Telephone was invented for
the betterment of the communication and the mode of the telephone was the first time verbal
communication without facing each other. This was the first time when science was taking
the communication process as one of the major systems in the world. But there was a non-
verbal process also there which was the telegraph system which was a complete code
language and one of the toughest non-verbal communication in the history f the
communication; it was mainly used by the snipers, army and by the Navy service. This was

used to cheat the enemies and smoothly convey the message to the other side of the
communication system (Back et al. 2007).
During 1978 and 1979 communication saw the huge beginning in London and the cities of
the new heaven. In these two cities, the telephone system was set up. After the telephone this
time the invention of the mobile phone which became very much popular later part of the 80s
because the mobile phones was too expensive for the normal people for that reason it was not
so popular among the normal people those mobiles was used in the corporate sectors by the
huge business owner and by the people who were economically stable in that market. But in
the later part, this mobile become the cheaper objects, and everyone started to use the mobile
phones. Now each and every people is using the mobile phones because mobile phones are
very much portable which can be carried in a small pocket and it can be carried anywhere a
person will go. After the mobile phone cellular network companies started their business in a
huge prospect because without the mobile network or the sim cards a mobile phone is
completely useless. After the invention of all these things, internet comes into the market
which has a broader aspect and huge source of communication. By the help of the internet,
people not only started to communicate with each other but also started to know about the
various companies and started to communicate with that company for the business purpose
(Cegala et al. 2007). But for the internet, a computer was required to run the internet system.
Nowadays these computers are not required for using the internet because mobile phones are
so much upgraded that people use the internet and another application in the mobile phones
this saves the both time and energy. People can get any information by using the internet
anywhere they want. By these, we can see the communication system has become so much
flexible that anyone communicates from anywhere and in any situation.
The communication has become more effective by the social media apps which have become
very helpful for the humanity. With the help of the social media apps, people can not only

talk or chat but also can see what the other person is doing on the other side of the phone.
People can share photos and any information by the help if the internet and the social media
application. There are many companies who use to post adds in the social media sites by
which people can know about the product this is one kind of marketing strategy and also this
helps the customers to ask frequent question to the company about the product and the
company feels easy to give the feedback by the help of the social media apps. Applications
like Facebook, Twitter, and the Whatsapp are used by the officials and the corporate sectors
for the communication. This is not only used for entertainment purpose but also used for the
official purposes because by the help of the Facebook, Whatsapp and Skype people can
arrange an official meeting through video calling with the help of these apps (DeVito, 2007).
Verbal communication
There are two types of communication process one is verbal communication and another one
is the non-verbal communication. Here verbal communication is one of the oldest parts of
communication it has started from the early age because that time humans did not have any
kind material where they can write or read, so they use to communicate verbally by speaking
to each other face to face. Verbal communication is the best mode of communication because
in verbal communication two people or more than a two person in front of each other by that
each and every one can understand the expression and the body language of each other. By
this, everyone can understand the motive of each other. By the help of the verbal
communication, people can go to the live presentation in their office which can create a good
impression among the office member. In verbal communication, a person can rectify his or
her instantly. Verbal communications required during the time of teaching, job interviews,
office meeting and any sought of get together. Verbal communication is two types:

Interpersonal communication: When two people or more than two people are exchanging
information, feelings and the thoughts and those things can be understood by the person who
is receiving and giving the feedback is called interpersonal communication. The best example
is the relation between the teacher and the students, Parents with their kids and couple who
knows each other and can understand the need. The interpersonal relation is possible when a
there is a good relation between the two or more than two people Because in interpersonal
communication speaking is not only the main fact but also the expression is the main term of
the communication (DeVito, 2007).
Public Speaking: public speaking is the most important part of the verbal communication a
good leader is the good public speaker who can influence or motivate others by his
communication skills. It might be the managerial leader or political leader. The leader must
know how to speak in the public or how to convince a person of his communication power.
Public speaking is not only for the leader but also for those people who are the marketing
person, salesperson or the customer care executive officers and the teachers. Public speaking
is one of the strongest parts of the marketing sector because the marketing sector is totally
depending upon the communication skills. When a new product is launched that time, the
company has to convince the customer not only by the features of the product but also by the
communication power make him or her giving the assurance about the product. On the other
hand when the customer service executive person is selling the product to the customer or
receiving problem from the customer that time the customer service executive person must
communicate with t customer in a polite manner so that next time the customer will again
visit them. The role of the teacher influences the student or motivates the student by his
motivational speech which is also a part of the public speaking skills. A teacher or a professor
has to teach lot of students at a time so in that case the teacher or the professor should fill shy
when he or she is facing huge student or huge gathering because a good public speaker will

never feel shy and will serve his speech in any kind situation and that helps the people to get
motivation from the public speaker (Dickinson et al. 2007).
Nonverbal communication
Non-verbal communication is a part of communication where no verbally sound
communication is required. Previously non-verbal communication was started by the early
man where no one can talk but can express themselves by feelings and gesture. After some
period when human beings were learning how to write and how to read that time letter
writing was the only way of non-verbal communication. During the time of world war,
telegraph system was started that time it was the modern process of the nonverbal
communication where the language was a specific code which can be understandable by the
person who is receiving the message. After that lot thing were invented like the mobile
phones where a person can write a message easily and can send it in a few second to the other
person instantly instead of writing the letter which was very much time-consuming. After the
mobile phone emails and the social media, apps has now arrived which has become easier
than the normal message. In those social media apps, people not only can send the message
but also can express themselves by the sticker. With the help of this apps, anyone can transfer
huge data to the other person. This application has become popular in both official purpose
and unofficial purpose. In non-verbal communication, people can rectify their mistake by
editing their speech or message because they are getting huge time when they are sending any
the message to the other people (Griffin, 2013).
Non-verbal communication is also used by the people who cannot speak and hear they can
express themselves by this. These are the most sensitive case where other people have to
handle very sensibly. On the other hand, people who are having pets they use to communicate

with pets in this mode because the animal cannot speak and they express their language by
their feelings (Heward, 2009).
Skills for communication
Communication itself is a skill which helps people to develop their language. For
communication, a person should know about linguistic or language. He must know in which
language he or she is going to communicate. If the person is communicating in English, then
he or she must know the English language properly because knowing the language properly
makes the communication process much easier for the people it is like half the job is done.
For improving the language, the person should read or write English language and should
follow the English news channel. Other than these a person should visit some place where the
English language is used commonly (Jacobson, 2009).
Body language is the other part of the communication where a person should maintain
positive and a smart body language which the other person can get the positive message. For
example when a person is going to an interview or meeting that time the person should be
well dressed and should maintain the decency in him and by the first interaction he or she can
create a great impression on the office staff (Tulsky, 2005).
On the other hand, communication has reached its .maximum level here a conference can be
done by the help of video chat. It has made very easy for the humanity to lead their life in a
simple manner. The electronic audiovisual presentation is the other mode of communication
which helps people to understand any project.
Conclusion
In this project, I had highlighted the facts, process, skills and the effects of the
communication. I have analyzed the communication system by deep study in public relation

and the management alongside with this I had observed from my personal communication
skills which helped me complete this project on communication. As per my knowledge, I
have shared all the knowledge what I have gained from the detailed study.
