ABSTRACT
Communication is way to exchange information by using different mediums from one person
another or to a group of people. Its an important tool in organisation for performing tasks and to
make individual work for for predetermined goals. Effective communication is needed on all
levels in structure of company to make things easy and understandable for employees so that
they can provide what is expected out of them. Different techniques, principles and methods are
used for effective conversation to take place amongst employees and leaders. Also many
practices are done to remove barriers exists in communication system of companies for purpose
of ensuring right message is conveyed to correct recipient in appropriate manner.
INTRODUCTION
Communication is a process of transferring information from one place to another and to
one person or group of people. Exchange of information can be done through many different
means like, writing, speaking, visualization or by gestures.
Any communication involves three elements, sender, receiver and message they want to
convey (Arnold and Boggs, 2019). In this report analysis of different ways of communication,
some effective communication principles and practices are studied to remove barriers in context
of Mr. Fishy company.
Literature Review
According to Alberto Martinez “Communication is contact between two or more person
with a message and sender expects some revert in way of opinion, activity or behaviour”. In view
of Idalberto Chiavento “Communication procedure influences at least two person, one who send
message and other who receives it, as its a procedure of passing data and understanding it”.
Fernando Gonzalez Rey says that “Communication is way in which people interacts with sign
system to express their needs, emotions etc. and its a product of human actions”. In accordance
with Abraham Nosnik “Communication is establishing connection through ideas or facts and
waiting for reaction from recipient on sent messages or statement” (Smith, 2019). Oscar Garay
Plaza define “Communication as a process of verbal and non-verbal interaction with intentional
exchange of message which can affect receiver behaviour with or without intentions”. According
to Megginson “Communication is sharing ideas, meaning and understanding a person or group of
persons by one another”.

LO1 Different types of communication present in an organisation
Their are many different types of ways of communication adopted or present in
organisations. Some of those methods and their purpose are explained below:
Formal and Informal- In companies proper standardised structure is their and to
communicate they use carefully crafted messages and flow through which information is
provided to required recipient it is formal communication system. It is used by considering
importance and quality of information. On the other hand, Informal communication is free flow
of information between employees on their personal level and doesn't involve any structure. This
type of communication is generally very fast, also easy way of conveying messages.
Directional- It is flow in which information travel through different directions in
businesses and those directions can be Downward, Upward and Horizontal. Downward flow is
when upper level managers send messages to front line employees of entity. Mostly it related to
instructions or tasks allotted by supervisors to employees working for them for attaining
objectives (Yap, Abdul-Rahman and Chen, 2017). Upward communication is when lower
management or employees sent messages to higher level staff it generally consist of needs of
employees required by them to do their job effectively. Horizontal communication is a flat way
of exchanging information which takes place between personnel working on same levels.
Internal and External- Internal communication takes place in company and its members,
it can be between entire organisation or in small groups of employees according to information.
It is generally in written form. This kind of data is mostly for internal employees or personnel
rather than external partners. External communication is conveying messages to external parties
of entity which are not directly related to business like stakeholders (shareholder, investors). It is
mostly in formal format, constructed through structure and travel through proper channel. These
messages are build very carefully as it is for external audience, any mistake can cost business if
some how conveyed information turnout negative.
Oral and Written- Best suited ways of exchanging substance is either oral or written.
Oral communication can be between two people or in group of people or may be in between
whole company. It is often informal method of transferring data but it is structured and prepared
earlier by the sender (Hassell and Cotton, 2017). Written communication is formal way of data
transfer, also plays most essential part in operations of business. This type of communication

needs experts to create its subject matter in order to express what exactly company wants to
convey and do not send any wrong messages to internal and external receiver.
LO4 Principles of effective communication
Various principles of effective interaction between employees in business is present in
market which can help in enhancing communication and its method in Mr. Fishy company. Some
barriers mentioned in above section can also be eliminated from system by adopting these
principles to exchange information.
Principle of Appropriate Language- According to this principle, information should be
transferred in simple and common language to reduce the effect of language barrier. As
employees of Mr. Fishy company belong to different regions or areas entity should one common
language to communicate, exchanging data in that language only. Besides, Words with different
meanings should be neglected or used to minimal level to keep message clear, conveying exactly
what sender wants to say or communicate.
Principle of Consistency- This principle promotes the idea of maintaining balance
between business objectives, process and procedure to do jobs so that best results can be
attained. Having systematic way of communication will help employees to talk easily with
higher level management and get their doubts cleared or if they need something to attain
organisations goals they get it without any hustle (Reese and et. al., 2017). Using this principle in
Mr. Fishy operations ensure removal of barriers created in communication due to complex
structure.
Principle of Flexibility- This principle emphasis on having flexible system to exchange
information with changing environment of market. Mr. Fishy company has to have system of
transferring data or messages which adapts different changes taking place in external atmosphere
for fast and better functioning of business. Other than this, having flexible methods of conveying
messages also ensure better connection between employees, their related tasks and goals of entity
improving interactions amongst whole organisation.
Principle of Informality- Informal method of talking along with formal way is very
important part of every communication system present in entities. Many issues in organisation
which cannot be solved by formally discussing them informal chat is needed to resolve those
issues like any grudges between two colleagues in a team. It will also help in removing barrier
caused in communication because of gender difference (Hosťovecký,2017). Employees of Mr.

Fishy company will be comfortable with each other improving their relations along with their
communication. Ultimately benefiting organisation to achieve its goals effectively and with
better efficiency.
LO5 Communication practices of manager of Mr. Fishy and others
Effective communication in managers and employees is a key to success for every firm
business. Same is the case with Mr. Fishy company, they also have to practice best ways to
interact amongst each others (Coombs, 2018). Some practices which leaders and workers of Mr.
Fishy can adopt for improved functioning of its operations are as follows:
For Managers Be Relatable- All leaders should make efforts to know their employees and understand
their needs, to do they should walk around office get involved with them informally chat
with them. Basically, encourage friendly or open minded behaviour to be close to
employees and to read what exactly is needed by them and when. Remember to be always “ON”- Managers assistance can be required by employees at any
moment, therefore leaders has to be ready for these kind off situations with satisfactory
answers to questions of their team members. Customized communication style- All individuals are different from each other in some
ways, to effectively communicate with them leaders has to opt unique styles for every
personnel.
Emphasize on key points by Repetitions- Good managers always keeps in mind to convey
their message to employees very clearly and making them remember key needs (Tate and
Frame, 2019). This clarity can be provided by them to team members by continuously
repeating key words in their speech or conversation so that those words gets stick into
heads of employees.
For Employees or Others Ask before speaking- Team members should clarify before conveying any message to
other associates in team. This will stop them from sending any wrong or unrelated
information which will them affect their jobs and organisations objectives. Write everything- Its suggested to employees or every individual to write down
instructions given by manager in relation to their job (Lasater,2019). As known written

conversations are more valuable then oral communication so better practice is to write
things down for better implementation of them. Active listen- Widely known that quality of good communicators is that they first listen
and then react. This practice is best for employees to be best in what they are doing by
properly listening to higher level about what they expect from them and how to
effectively execute predetermined jobs.
Do not interrupt- First and foremost suggestion given to every person is to not cut off
between someone is saying something. Interruption can break their flow, make them
forget what exactly they were saying and affect quality of message. This will affect the
outcome or results needed to attain through that message.
CONCLUSION
From above report its is summarised that communication is very important tool of
various types of organisations present in market place (David, 2017). Also, managers and other
related members of any entity should have good conversational skills to interact amongst
company and with external members is also very important. Application of some profound
communication principles in business structure will also enhance operations while working for
goals of organisation.
