INTRODUCTION
Nursing as a profession which requires expertise in different areas and skills and brings up
number of barriers for professionals while working on the field and dealing with different
patients. As a nurse I have to deal with number of patients on a regular basis and look over them
providing they care services and keeping up with their health. The major problem for the issue
which we face and which I face as a nurse is of communication. There are different people with
whom I need to deal on a daily basis and every individual is different from one another that leads
to a typical aspect that is development of communication barrier due to several factors such as
age, gender, language etc. The entire issue is reflected below with the help of Gibbs reflective
cycle a very common tool used by professionals.
MAIN BODY
Description- Meeting with new people every day is a very common characteristic of our job
and being a nurse. We deal with different types of people belonging to different regions,
speaking different languages and having different problems. Communication is an issue as it is
very common that sometimes patients don’t understand our language they may be dealing with
certain hearing disabilities due to their age or due to any other reason. While we work with
proper code of practice and follow professional behaviour with safe practices and work as per the
conduct expected from us as professionals. Being a nurse it is my responsibility to be abide to
my professional conducts and code of practices but still the issue of communication exist
between us and the patients and working with code helps in resolving it.
Feelings- It is sometimes very difficult to make a patient understand what we are saying due
to the communication barrier which exists between us. This creates a lot of misunderstanding
between US and the patients which sometimes makes us feel demotivated and humiliated as
well. The code of conduct guides me and help me in understanding the feelings of patients and
be sympathetic to them.
Evaluation / Analysis- As per my experience and the time I have spent as a nursing
professional I have gathered enough understanding that communication is a very common barrier
and issue which will be a part of our job role. It is important for me and all nursing professionals
to make sure the patient is receiving all the important care and we all always cautious and
compassionate towards are patience in order to make them feel comfortable and provide them a

very healthy environment to recover from there sufferings and go home happily. The code of
conduct enable us to be more professional and make analysis of the issue of communication by
being more ethical and behaving professionally.
Action Plan- The trick and tactics which are commonly used and will be using father for
dealing with my patients and removing the of communication amongst us is to try and be caring
as well as committed to the patient. This practice helps in making the patient understand through
other gestures that I am here to help them and to provide them best care which will be helping
them in getting better and leaving to their home as early and as healthy as possible.
Conclusion- In the end I can only say that communication barriers is a very common issue
and it is the responsibility of nursing professionals to make sure that this barriers do not exist
between their patients and themselves. But if it exist the job role of a nursing staff always make
sure that day take appropriate initiatives to reduce the barrier and make healthy conversations
with their patients. At the end it is seen that code of conducts enable me to work professionally
and be a guide to my colleagues and a potential help to my patients.
