A Reflective Essay about Effective Communication & Improving Performance,
& how this influenced my Performance, behaviour & experience
This piece of reflective writing utilises Driscoll’s model of reflection (1994). Here I will
discuss my experiences at work/in education (WHICH OF THESE TWO DO YOU
WRITE ABOUT? WORK, OR EDUCATION?) where I demonstrate effective
communication, and the process that enabled me to improve my performance, in the
table below:
Part A

enabled you to improve performance because
of effective communication
What is/was the Purpose?
I was working with team of content writers in
company where we were given the responsibility
to write blogs, research the social networks in e-
commerce, sites and college websites. My
purpose to work with content writers was to
enhance my competitive skills of interpersonal
communication, learn soft skills and hard skill
which will enable me to build my strengths of
working in group and develop dynamic working
skills.
What happened in the
event/scenario?
In scenario, I learned advanced creative
writing skills where I was able to develop
my English, gain knowledge about
competitive dynamic world here there are
different mid-set people working together
(Abdalla,2019).
I gained experience of working in team
where various ideas and thoughts are
encouraged by leaders, and we are given
platforms to showcase our talents.
The scenario developed my overall
personality with enthusiastic learning,
strong command on my English and also
enhanced my competitive learning abilities
along with potentiality to work under
pressure.
What did I see/do during the
event?
During the events and group sessions with
fellow team members I used to maintain a
diary where I used to keep records of all
key-points discussed, learnings by leaders
and the guidelines which we as content
writers were expected to follow.

I used revise the points learned in meetings
properly and the leaders were very
encouraging to provide us with
opportunities to uplift our learnings.
I used to keenly observe what parameters of
learning can be built for improving my performance
according to benchmarks set by leaders.
I faced the challenge of Writers block due to
less confidence at some point of time while
working in team. There were certain periods
where I faced less productive to write
creative content on my blogs.
What was my reaction to it?
I used to read other creative content
published in magazines and newspapers to
gain inspiration of creative writing and learn
advance writing skills.
This motivated me to improve my skills,
communication with peer group members
and also developed my motivation.
I started listening informatory videos to
learn innovative English and build
paradigms which enhanced my arenas of
learning (Galloway and Uccelli,2019).

were involved in this?
My teammates were very supportive in working
together, we conducted research studies together
which helped us in developing ideas for content
writing. Interpersonal skills enabled group
members to build strong cooperation of
communication.
How did they react or what
did they do as a result of it?
Team members were positive in working together
which encouraged me to gain competitive
knowledge and strongly enhance my skills.

How did I feel at the time of
the event?
I was optimistic in working as content writer, as I
gained a lot practical experience of advance
creative writing and also increased my potentiality
to learn quickly.
Were those feelings I had any
different from other people
who were involved at the
time?
The leaders always appreciated my positive
outlook and optimistic approach of working which
was different from their team members.

Are my feelings now, after the

I experienced at the time?
Presently I am able to speak fast English and
communicate effectively with people due to strong
interpersonal learnings. The experience of working
as content writer has enabled me to grow with
strong potentiality.
Do I still feel troubled, if so, in
what way?
I faced writers block difficulty and less confidence
at some points of time because of the extensive
deadlines given to us by leaders. The date
deadlines and time made us less efficient because
there was extreme pressure on us.
What were the effects of what
I did or did not do?
By listening to informative videos content,I was
able to gain inspiration and enhance my English
extensively.
What positive aspects now
emerge for me from the event
that happened in practice?
The positive aspects emerged by working as
content writer were that i gained practical
experience of writing field and today I am able to
work in higher MNCs.
What have I noticed about my
behaviour in practice by
taking a more measured look
at it?
I have noticed a rapid change in my behaviour
after working as content writer, as I have
developed strong business ethics and
professionalism while communicating with my
seniors and subordinates.
I have gained knowledge of working with dynamic
people together in groups which has largely
helped me in experiencing high professionalism.
What observations does any
person helping me to reflect
on my practice make of the
way I acted at the time?
I got mentoring from my seniors while facing
difficulty to come out of writers block as they
motivated me to novels, newspapers and listen to
informative audio and videos to gain inspiration
(Gautam,2019).

content by the readers of blogs on websites.

from, if I were to face a
similar situation again?
If I face difficulty in bringing creative content in my
blogs again in future I will seek guidance of my
fellow team members, listen to TED talks which
are highly inspirational and work towards
enhancing my English to high standards.
Do I need help to assist me to
‘action’ the results of my
reflections?
I can need help of my seniors and mentoring from
strong experienced content writers as this field is
highly competitive and there is strong demand of
reliable content.
Which aspect/s should be
addressed first?
Writers block is common issue of challenge faced
by content writers which affect their productivity
standards largely.
How will I know if I am
different in clinical practice?
I can check by progress by participating in
seminars and group discussions with seniors.
Brainstorming sessions with other fellow team-
mates will enable me to check my progress and
gain high skills of productive learning.
What is the main learning that
I can take from reflecting on
my practice?
The main learning I can take from reflecting my
practise is it is extremely important to have high
command on English, as it is global language and
to maintain professionalism while working in
corporate companies.
